Dont limit yourself to just a hubsan model...you would be very surprised at how many reliable great flyers there are out there.

The toy quads are just flat out fun..Heres a couple recommendations to you.

Bayang Toys X9 ( the best Blade nQX clone)..I just ordered one for less than $22.00 RTF...parts and batteries are extremely cheap for it.

JJRC 1000A...you can get this in a BNF for $16.00 in the USA from tmart i think.(around $27 for RTF...(got mine for $13.00 from china)...The best radio to get to fly it other than expensive radios ,is from the TARANTULA X4 or X6 (same radio)...its like $12.00 for the radio from china.

I have both of these models and the tarantula radio coming to me as i type..2 of the better well known, fun flyers for cheap...Both very capable out door flyers and excellent indoor flyers.

The only thing is no FPV or camera with it which is not a big deal..Most ,including the hubsan models dont have very good quality fpv systems and hubsan charges alot more than most...To just learn to fly you dont need a camera or fpv anyways.

An alternative to a great video camera for the smaller quads is the 808 #16 keychain camera, which is better quality than most all the camera equipped quads anyways...Self powered so, no drain on the quad battery..you can remove it from its case for less weight as well, if need be...Still not FPV but as i said most of the toy fpv systems suck pretty much anyways.

Mikes recommendation on the JJRC 1000a Bind N' Fly is something to consider because many of their products are made for them by Cheerson. For $16.00 it's worth seeing if it will bind with your Cheerson CX 20 TX. It would be nice to only have one Tx to be familiar with. Even if you end up having to buy the Tarantula Tx it's still cheaper than the Hubsan.

The 2 i recommended could be considered in the top 5 of the toy quads.

The bayang x9 is a little rocket of a quad..has very good stability and super light..Great for practicing indoors from your couch...despite a small 150mah battery, run times are about 7 to 8 minutes with it..it only weighs 19.5 grams..lol..Its modeled after a much more expensive quad (Blade nQX) and its extremely close to its performance..Its a must have in the stable.

The JJRC is known for its very good flight characteristics AND IT IS SUPER FAST!!!!!...Im seeing more and more using the flight board in custom quad builds..even much larger quads like the Syma X5C..it just wakes up almost anything...I actually plan to use one myself to do a hybrid build with...The BNF version is a steal really..the board sells for about $12.00 by itself..So paying $16 or even $20 for a BNF is a bargain as you get 4 motors and props, as well as new body shell if ever needed..Many just buy the RTF to use as spare parts.

The standard radio that comes with the JJRC1000A RTF has very good range but one draw back is it also has the flip mode built into the throttle in 100% mode..so, if you gas it full throttle, it just wants to flip and not many care for that feature..The tarantula x6 radio allows 100 percent mode without flips and wakes that quad up considerably...flips are now controlled via a button at the top If you choose to flip....You will get a 40%( beginers mode/slow) 60% (fast and responsive) and 100% mode (INSANE!!!!) to choose from but in 100 percent you can fly very aggressive and not flip unless you want it too..Its almost considered too fast to fly in 100 percent mode..many find 60 percent mode a happy medium..its that fast in 100 mode, insane really.....The x6 is also a larger transmitter that fits alot more comfortable in the hand..Its a no brainer for less than $35.00 for the quad and Tarantula x6 TX.

Watch youtube videos on the x9 and jjrc..you will see how well they fly for such little money..They are amazing choices..You cant go wrong with either one really..get both, i did..lmao.

Something you need to know first...if you go with the BNF version of the JJRC, you will not get spare blades or a battery or a charger or a radio or even a manual..So you will need at least batteries and a charger for it at minimum, then purchasing of the x6 radio as well.

The stock jjrc would come with a 250mah 1s lipo..Many chose a higher mah but i wouldnt exceed more than 350 mah...longer flights will overheat the motors and possibly burn them out...I would just get stock replacement batteries for it to begin with this way you know the plugs are correct.

The JJRC 1000A is also compatible with WL Toys V272 radios (about $20.00) and is also compatible with a JJRC H8C transmitter (but not recommended.)

I am sure there is as Cheerson is one of the larger players in the Chinese RTF market. I just happened to remember JJRC from a magazine article. I usually don't pay much attention to RTF's. I prefer to build them. I do have a Syma X5c1 and a Quannum Nova which is a CX20 and the reason I got involved in your post. I think Mike H., and hopefully some other members will chime in, are the ones that can be the most helpful to you. I have 5 builds so when you decide to start building I can probably be of more help to you.:)

im not really much of a builder as i like everything to be original, boring i know but that is how i like them.

thank you again for your help though, i really appreciate it.

i love helis but i have tried countless times to fly them but was just too hard so thought i would give quad a go as people have said its easier than helis.

They are a bit more stable for sure. I keep the RTF's around just to have something that is always ready to fly. A lot of times my builds are just that. Builds. Not always ready. Haha!

The market is full of clones and clones of clones of clones..lol.

I think its more a matter of what models use the same protocol rather than by who it was made by...Protocol is how a TX and RX communicate to each other...There are quite a few different protocols being used and change often even on the same models...One example is SYMA models..The X5C is not the same protocol as the newer X5C-(S) and X5C-(W) even though they are essentially the same quad.

The JJRC1000A uses the NRF24L01 module with WL TOYS 2x2 protocol which i think is a flysky protocol..i could be wrong.. the CX20 uses the A7105 module which shows it being a flysky protocol..So it may be possible but ill try to check more into it for you.


The WL TOYS V272 and Tarantula X6 are the 2 best as far as low cost radios are concerned that are confirmed to work with the JJRC 1000A other than a stock radio.

The link you posted is correct for the BNF 1000A model...they also have it with red lettering if you prefer that.

If you want a "One radio fits all" you will have to make an investment into a much more expensive radio then invest in different plug in modules for each different model you may have, not using the same protocol...can get costly.

hi guys i have finally got the cx-20





but i am having problems calibrating it, i have plugged the battery in and within 5 secons i switched the tx on and pulled the throttle down and on the right side i pushed the stick to the bottom right corner and its not doing anything, am i doing anything wrong?

Transmitter on first, THEN plug in the quad and do your calibrating. Like your stash of quad calibrating survival food........Hahaha!!

Be sure the battery is fully charged before using it..they come at a "storage" capacity...they have enough power to work but if you dont charge it fully first it can damage the cells. ..the first charge is an important one.

thank you mike, it wasnt the calibrate that i needed to do, it was to unlock the motor.

i have to power up the quad then power up the tx with the throttle pointing to the bottom right and that is when it will unlock. i cant seem to lock or unlock the motor when it is all powered up.

sorry just having another problem now, i have managed to stop all the beeping but now everytime i connect to mission planner, the cx-20 keeps making alarm noise like a burglar alarm, the beeps has gone though.

It would make it easier if one of us owned that model but i dont they we do..lol....Youtube will be pretty much your best friend here, to see how to set things up..If you need gps help try typing in "CX20 gps set up", for instance... Im sure there are videos covering every aspect of that model.

THIS is why i like my toy quads...plug and play pretty much...lol...By the way if you are in the USA ,the older hubsan H107L (improved Version 2) is being sold through the Banggood USA warehouse for $19.00 shipped...I couldnt pass it up..lol..(no camera version)

Ordered mine last night and its said to have shipped out already..hoping in 5 to 7 days to have it. :)

That long beep could be a low voltage warning or a mode its in,.. im not really sure with that model..if it was a cx10 or cx30 or something, i could be of more help..lol.

I have a Quannum NOVA ( CX20 ) but have never used mission planner. I assume you calibrated the compass? I know it can take mine from 1 to 5 minutes to get GPS lock depending on where I am and if tall buildings are nearby. I bought this because it was on sale and I wanted a larger RTF to fly outside while I keep dismantling my other quads. I have no idea how to use mission planner but does the quad fly ok in the other modes?
