Need information

So I have a syma x5c and I was wondering if I could use the syma x5c parts on the inside and throw the shell away and then get a smaller body and smaller propellers but hook up the propellers directly to the motors. Sorry if this is confusing

Hi. I'm a bit of a newbie myself but I believe I know the answer to your question. The motors on the X5c are small, brushed motors that need the gear reduction to give the power multiplication needed for flight. It is very doubtful they will be powerful enough on their own to get off the ground. Why not just get rid of, or trim down, the body, add a little support here and there and fly naked. :p Most of the quads under construction by members do not have bodies. Bare bones and light weight are the order of the day. Good luck!

Yes, what HDtallrider said, the gears are needed to get high enough torque to get off the ground. You could remove the top of the shell and hotglue/fasten some of the parts that loose their supports.

Hmmm... What if I took off the shell and made a custom body? Just have small thin tubing instead of the thick arms and have the wires go through the tubing.

That would be possible, be sure to secure the gears better than in the picture though. You don't want to break them in a hard landing.

Hi mate make a frame out of balsa wood it very light and after a crash just glue it to fix it , the motors are coreless and need the gearing to get it to fly like George said , but what you have in the photo will work if you mount it on a wood frame

You could also try basswood. It's almost as light as balsa and many times stronger. You can get it at any hobby or craft shop. To protect the gears why not get creative and mount the prop guards down low. If you turn them upside down they could double as landing gear. You could start a new business selling x5c mod kits!

You have to support your arms and circuit board with something like a plastic or wood tray anyway, so attach a velcro strap to the bottom ( with glue, for example ) and tie your battery to that. It works for 20lb hexa's so I'm sure it will work for a 20oz quad. In the few short months since I caught Quad disease and discovered this forum I have had a blast! With the advice of members I have learned to design, build ( some even worked! ) fly, and crash ( I'm a awful pilot). Experiment away, my friend! You are not alone. There will always be a member to help you pick up the pieces. Enjoy!
