Need help with my Syma X8 upgrade

I just upgraded my X8c with the brushless motor upgrade kit you can buy from the Syma store. Installation went flawless. The instructions on the website says that you can adjust the motor speeds by toggling the camera switch up or down. When I try it, it only turns the camera on or off or the video on or off. If I try to use the the left front button to change speeds, nothing happens. This controller is not the original, it is a new X8hg controller so I can use the altitude hold function. Also, the upgrade kit is also for the X8hg. Does anyone have any experience with these kits or any I ideas how to change the motor speeds? It says it has low, med, and high ranges.

I tried it with the camera unplugged and it did the same thing. I man from a facebook x8 group has done the same mod. He told me to open the syma go app then it will work. I can't get the app to open using that drone. It will open on my other syma drones, but not this one. Hmmm? Wonder what's up?

Okay I own a Syma x8c, but I haven't tried upgrading to the brushless motors but your post is interesting.

You say you got a new tx but it's for a syma x8hg? That tx is not compatible with the flight control board on the x8c. Although it might work somewhat, you're not going to get the altitude hold or wi-fi connection that come in the x8hg.

The Syma x8c is not going to communicate with an app, there is no internet connection/wi-fi. You'll need to change the x8c control board with an x8hg control board and hope that works.

Before I did the brushless upgrade, I upgraded my x8c with the x8hg board and controller so I would have altitude hold. So when I did the brushless upgrade, I made sure I bought the brushless upgrade from the x8hg parts list to make sure it would work. Everything is working fine except the power selection. Altitude hold works, headless works. I haven't had a real chance to see if the power selection is working without the camera unplugged in because the weather sucks. Maybe this week. If that is the way it has to work, I'll have to go GO Pro style action cam to have a camera.

Here is something I am wondering. There is no mention to use a 3s battery. Should I be? What will it hurt if I try that? I tried using my x8c controller and it fly's better. It was very ratical with the hg controller. It still holds decent altitude without the spring loaded lever. Seams to fly much more predictable. Forgot to check to see if I have different speeds. I was enjoying the awesome flight characteristics I was getting with this controller and didn't think about checking for speed modes.
