My first custom quad

Hello
This is my first custom quad build
The centerplate is lasercutted 3mm MDF board, blazed with epoxy resin and painted black
The same with the motor mount.
The arm is a 1/2" carbon fiber tube, 35cm in length
The motor is suppo BL-28-14/6 1400KV
50A suppo opto esc
5400mAh Lipo battery 45c
Turnigy 9x tx and rx

The flight controller haven't arive yet, but i bought a cc3d flight controler.

I made the motor mount to be adjustable so i can change the position of the motor.

I will update as soon as the quad is airborne

Any input is very appreciated

Sounds like fun build, just one odd thing:

Why a 50 amp opto ESCs? The 50 amp part is fine, it'll alloq you upgrade to bigger motors later, but the (OPTO) means opto-coupled AKA you are supposed to use a second battery for the 5v stuff, but you can take a little step-down transformer to take the ~12v and step it down to 5v.

Heheheh, because it was the only 50amp esc i could find at my local hobbyshop, and it was the same brand as the motors. Acording to the datasheet, the motors could pull 40amps at full throtle, so i just play it safe. I'm using a standalone BEC to power the receiver and the flight controler.and a separate battery to power up the gimbal and the FPV system

40 amps on 1240kv motors???? What type of props are you using haha. As long as you use that external BEC you should be fine, you may need to upgrade to 800kv motors later haha, that is what I am doing from my 1240kv motors. I have to buy all new ESCs as I only used 30 amp ones, and I'll need 40 xD. My motors draw around 13 amps with 9x4.7 props.

Some heavy stuff there, about ~600 grams just for the motors and ESCs. You sure that 1/2" tube is enough?

I'm using a 10x45 prop right now, i'm not realy sure how much amps the motor pull but the datasheet said that it could pull 40amps max, so better be safe than sorry hahahahaha. The parts for this kind of hobby is still hard to find in my country, so i just have to make do what available

The truth is i'm not realy sure, but it is the only available carbon tube that i can buy localy, so i hope it is strong enough, if not maybe i gonna change it with aluminium

Finished installing the cc3d, but haven't got the time to try it yet, it weigh more than i expected but i think it can still fly nicely, it almost take off with 1/2 throtle. Maybe i'm gonna try to fly it this weekend

It had a short life sadly.... Just crashed it and broke 2 propeler....
I think the adjustable motor mount has backfired, the problem is it mounted on a tube, and if i didn't level it perfectly then it won't have the same angle of thrust. And i learn it the hard way heheheheh, i guess back to the drawing board ...

It'll be a good way to do it, you should be able to look at it and tell about the angle, but if not lay it upside down on a table and it'll fix it's self.

So? Take more time to level and square them. Mounts of that type on tubes are quite common as is breaking props and crashing.

It looks nice BTW. :)

Yeah i guess i should be more careful with the motor alignment, i'm designing a new frame for it and the arms are not adjustable, I'm ordering a 10x5,5 carbon props right now, so i think it should have more lift than the old ones. Fixing the frame at 550mm diameter and making the carbon tubes as a support colon inside a mdf full frame. I'm in luck because i have a private access to a lasercutter so i can try diffrent kind of frame design

This is the new frame design, the carbon tube will be placed as a support between the upper arm and the lower arm

10x5.5? Those are plane type props probably, make sure the motors can handle them and that they won't stall out when you get a little high.
