My first custom build and need advice and pointers...

Do you know how much flight time I would have with the motors and battery that I will use, the battery is the one that was suggested to me below my specs. Im not sure what the difference in 3s version or 4s version apart from volatge? I am running an LED spotlight that I would like to somehow control via a servo so maybe the extra voltage could help maybe, but am not sure how I would control the spotlight, neither do I no if my battery will last long enought to provide the LEDS and motors and all the other electrical components lol

According to ecalc that GJH105775 mention earlier, you will have about 6 to 9 minutes of flight time, i am not recomend using 4s battery if you will be using props that 10" and bigger. Maybe increasing the mAh will yield a better result

Did you say yours was a 500mm setup? I think thats a suitable size id like to go with... So it's 500mm from motor to motor...

Just a few questions if you dont mind :)

- Where have you managed to hide your flight controller?
- What size carbon fibre tube did you use?
- What size void between both plates did you go with?
- Will my components be fine for a 500mm frame?

I am unsure if my transmitter an reciever will be okay for this build?

The flight controler is put under the small top cover, and the receiver is just behind it,
I use a 1/2" tubes, it was a tail of a helicopter heheheh, i bought it at my local hobby shop for $9 each.
The gap between the top and bottom plate is 16mm
And yes, i use a 3mm mdf board.
If you can find a hdf board it will be better for the stiffnes of the frame, but it will be a bit heavier.

I think your components will be fine for a 500mm frame, but i was a newb in quadcopter too so i might be wrong.

I guess your transmiter is ok, 6 ch is enough, the quad itself only need 4 ch, the 5th is for flight modes.

I used a 8ch transmitter to control the pitch and roll of the gimbal

Thank for answering ym questions. I like the idea of a top and bottom plate and having a sort of reinforcement tube in between, I think structurally that is a good idea. You may not be abel to answer this but with my spare channel do you think I could somehow use that to switch on and off my spotlight/lighting throught the flight controller? Otherwise I would have to switch it on via a switch on board and then fly it around...

What size did you do you base plate? (the square section where you have mounted the controller and whatnot)

If you follow my thread then when I have drawn up my design i will post pictures of my build as I go through each stage?

Would be nice to share my design and build log with people :)

Hmm, if you want to put a servo on your light to make it like a searchlight then you will used up all of the ch, beside that, i don't know how to convert pwm pulse into an on/off switch, but that is a good idea, my transmitter also have 1 unused ch, maybe i'm gonna do a little research, and if i found something i'll let you know

Yes that is where I have hit a wall, I think for my fist build I will just leave the servo off and just have a spotlight on the quad which I hope i can switch on and off via my last channel... If I can make that work then I think i have a final design in my head :p

What size did you do you base plate? (the square section where you have mounted the controller and whatnot)

Yeah, actually this is the 2nd frame i build, the first one had a design flaw, the wotor mount is not attached to the center plate, but only to the carbon tube, so if i'm not calibrate it right, the anglenof thrust is different at each arm.
The first frame, i glazed the mdf with an epoxy resin then paint it black. The epoxy resin makes the frame a bit stiffer and make it easier to paint

So if i design mine with the arms attached to the main base plate like in your first pic and attach my motor mounts to the mdf will mine still be okay? does the moter mount go between motor and mdf or beaneath mdf? Im not sure?

That is a very basic general rule, and is dependent on props, torque, and KV. You can have a 1440 kv motor and a 900kv motor be have the same wattage and the 900 will almost always give you more thrust.

Sure, the cc3d flight controller is the little square box, the one under the middle cover is a standalone BEC, and i put the receiver at the back to balance the weight from the gimbal and the action cam
