I take it there are several types of motors. All I have been hearing about so far is brushed motors which, I take it, is the best type. What are the other types (or type)? Are brushed motors preferable to all other types? If they are, why are they?
I believe the brushes in a brushed motor are the carbon blocks engaging the armature. That contact causes wear and decreases the lifespan.
Pretty sure the main points of contact for brushless is the bearings and shaft. The direction is driven magnetically. They are going to last longer.
These days there are many reasonably priced quads with long lasting and very powerful brushless motors. Some of cheapest brushless motors (<$6) out there will provide more than double the thrust of an X8 motor. They also use standard prop adapters instead some wonky proprietary prop attachment and props.
uavfutures has a vid on types of motors, won't answer all Qs but shows you teh stuf rc'ers think about. him, rcmodelreviews, great browsing for gen info. take a couple hours, days. other bloggers good for specific model info imo.
Love UAV Futures, miss Falcon Blue Project, they are probably the 2 most informative, easy to understand U-Tubers out there in this hobby. Got me thru my first build and still continue to guide me !!!
