Kinda new with a couple questions.

First post and I'm sure not the last. I have been into all aspects of the RC hobbies one way or another. My main passion is gas 1/4 scale F 1 RC tunnel hull boats. I fly planes and Helis. Couple years ago when the quad wave started rolling and getting more popular I purchaced on a whim a blade mqx. Or at least I think that's what it is called. Fun little quad. Good for indoors and easy to fly. I just wished at that time there were more options I could add like a camera light etc to make things more interesting. Got board and put it back in the box and it sat on my shelf till 2 months ago when I saw how advance quads have come since the introduction of that little quad. It sparked a new phase in my RC experience. My girlfriend purchaced me a Ares Ethos FPV. Solid quad to start with. No incidents except that the quad got away from me in a strong wind. I think it's mainly because the battery was draining and the power was not strong enough to fight the wind back to where I was. I went into emeraency landing mode. Pretty far away the quad was sitting in the middle of a field without incident except a cracked motor mount. Parts are increadably back ordered and I'm at the mercy of arens to make them available. For now a little CA got me back up. It's cool but like I said, it's basic and I already have the skills to comfortably fly the quad. I fly Helis and my orientation skills and etc are proficient. Next step. I looked at more involved quads with gps and return home and plotting and so on. They as I'm sure you know are priced high. I still wanted to see if I would stick with this hobby or just dabble once in awhile, I really didn't want to invest major money till I was sure my interest stuck. After doing some research I found the quantum nova was the best bang for the buck. I'm sure there are a lot of opinions out there but from my research there was more pos then neg and it seems to have fit my thinking. This is where the questions start.

I don't have a go pro. Never had a need for one. And I really don't want to purchace one right now. Or the brushless gimble. Would I be able to use the 5.8G camera and tx which is all one peice. And there is a monitor that goes with it. The cameras power comes from the balance plug on the lipo and the function plug goes into the main board that also has a balance connector. Would I be able to take pics and vid from the tx?

If I would get a go pro. Which one do I need. They seem to have 4 generations. Also could I use the 5.8g monitor with it from the ares. And could I take pics and vids remotely from the tx with a go pro?

You really need a dedicated camera, because gopros (mobius and runcam also) have serious lag, so if you do get one of these, (if not for the lag runcam is really great, and cheapest) The three I just mentioned are mainly for secondary recording devices, to give you nice clean video. Where as if you get a dedicated camera you will have basically 0 lag. The run cam is as good as the mobius if you are using it for a secondary recording device, and is is somewhere around $40.

Take a look at this post I made, it provides a few different options. I suggest that which ever one you get you have a 32ch Vtx if the set comes with no reciever or no video transmitter, because the 32 ch one will work with basically and 5.8ghz receiver. For someone such as yourself this may be an option (full FPV set, and best bang for your buck I have yet seen).

That's a lot of info. Thanks. I do believe the ares camera is a dedicated all in one camera. It takes pretty good pics and vid. And the plus is, I already have it so it costs me nothing. I just don't know about connecting it to the flight control. If it would be plug and play. I really don't have any need for a go pro except if I would use it with a quad. So to me it's senseless to get one. The other options seem ok. All the info is over whelming. I really don't want the goggles at this point. I would like to use the monitor I have if possible. Can you just put a package together of everything needed plug and play that works and I can go from there. Like I said it's a great hobby but just learning as I go along. Reason I joined this forum. So far the research I have done is excellent. I just want to get in the air and take some vid and pics at this point. The ares was really a good product and it just did what I wanted it to do at this point when it came to photography. It just dint have the features I was looking for when it came to more technical optiontions.

Ok, so you already have a camera and a monitor. Are your camera and monitor already setup to use RCA (white, Yellow and red cables).

If so this means you just need a 5.8ghz(what most people use) video transmitter and video receiver.



Here is a set that has the transmitter about as cheap as I have seen it different places, and it comes with nice camera and tidy cables, I used it and it is super easy to setup, really is just PnP. Here is a receiver once you would have this all you would need on the ground would be a screen that used RCA, because that is what comes out of the receiver.

I just watched this video, and really don't know what to say about how you would control the camera if this is what you have.

Man you are a huge help. You are practically spoon feeding the info. No the tx for the rx is built in the camera. It's all in one. It gets power from the balance plug on the battery. And another balance connector plugs in the board so that the Channels on the tx can stop and start vid and take pics. The camera has it's own antenna and everything. Combined. You can just hook it up to a battery sitting off the quad off the quad and transmit live feeds to the monitor. Just can't take pics or vid. Because it's not connected to the tx.

Check the pins then, you should be able to just move the whole thing over, make sure it gets the proper voltage 3/10ths of a volt high can damage most camera equipment. How many pins connect to the quad?

It's 3. The adapter on the camera is also a balance connector. I can always change it to what it calls for.

Ok, 3 what colours are the wires? And are they marked in the silkscreen. Anything like V+, 5v+, VCC, Vin, +-~

Actually if you can give some closeup pics that would be great. You want to make sure it is all power. I suspect one is power one is data and then a common neutral that they share. JSTs are common, so they may not be a balance plug.

Ok here are pics. There is a antenna, its not screwed on. There is the small plug that connects to the main board. The larger one connects to the lipo balance plug. On the tx there is 2 buttons. One to start and stop vid and one for pics. A an C bottom right of the tx

Ok, it looks like you are correct and all you have to do in power it up and it is ready.

If you can, measure the voltage coming off from where this plugged in, unless it just plugged into the battery.

That's the bottom plug. It's black and white. The smaller one on top is just for the control board. They both only have red and black wires

Quick question. If I don't use the camera shown here and bought a new 5.8g tx and camera could I use the 5.8 g Rx monitor I already have.

If you got this combo, then you should be able to. It has a 32 channel transmitter, this covers the 5.8ghz spectrum. This will do PAL and NTFS, unless there is some weird method of encoding that it uses you should be able to.

This has everything that goes on the quad, all you have to do is plug it into the balancing port. It is really simple, there is a button that allows you change the channel, if you hold it down you can change the band.

But what about the smaller plug that actually plugs to the board on the quad? That uses the channels to take pics and vid.

The camera system is separate from the FC. They work independently. This system does not record though.
