If it ain't broke, don't fix it??? You kidding?
Hey all..................just a thing I've discovered with Frankendrone...............
As with all hobbies what you build is dependent on how much money you have. For myself, I'm tight-fisted and my budget is based on what I used to spend on cigs................or should have spent on cigs.
Consequently in trying new things I usually get the most inexpensive I can find without buy garbage(though that does happen) until I'm sure I will want to spend extended time on said hobby.
This has led be to an interesting by way with props. I've bought several sets of inexpensive 1045/1047 props and all except one set have had offsets in the shaft hole. Even the ones that have the 8mm hole with the lugs for the DJI style 2212 motors. Luckily(as it turns out) most of the props are coming with 6mm or 7mm holes. Especially the sets of CF props. What's a boy(or girl) to do??
Well.........I happen to have a small, solid, drill press. Of course.........get a piece of 3/4" oak, cut it approximately 1.5in by 2in, drill a half inch hole 3/4 of the way thru the 2in end and cut a 1/4in slot thru the center of the 1/2in hole. Now with a little deburring with a dremel I have a means to accurately clamp up a prop and redrill the center hole to 8mm and have it centered even if the original was not centered. Now I've gotta prop I can balance and won't be off center to the spin.
BUT(you knew it was coming).................the hub is jus a small bit to short to tighten up on and even if it wasn't I would worry about the prop spinning on the shaft. So.........being an old shade tree/farm mechanic...........I got me a small parts bin full of serrated washers in the perfect size(5/16in). What slack may exist between hub and lock nut is taken up by the washer and the serrations insure that my prop doesn't spin on the shaft.
I'm so brilliant.................my mother called me sun!!!
