is using thread lock a good idea? what if you break a motor and have to take it out? then you wont be able to unscrew it?

i got this set from walmart today

but for whatever weird reason, the m3 bit does not fit in the m3 screw. reminds me of my sex life

Loctite will come loose. What is doing is holding the screws tight from the vibration and flexing the quad does while flying. If you check all your screws before every flight, I suppose you avoid using it. Or do nothing and keep losing screws.

i looked all over amazon but they dont seem to have m3 or m2 hex screws that are 5mm long :(

I see torx bits but not allen bits in the picture. There is also standard and metric allen head and torx head screws. You could bring the screw to the store and match it up to the tool, if you cant figure out which size you have

You probably have a standard bit set and not a metric set which is what is needed to fit an M3 screw. The M stands for 'Metric' and the 3 stands for 3mm.

I seem to be able to get everything done with this:

I only use one or two pieces from the set for frame and motor screws, but I use the other ones for other stuff. I also have a lot of random bit sets that I will sometimes use with electric drivers:

I use that set the most for little stuff since it has everything, even odd security bits that most other sets don't have.

I'm a huge fan of Harbor Freight. Everything is cheap and they have an amazing selection of tools. Most of their stuff is good enough quality, but even if it's not, most of their hand tools have lifetime warranties and it's like the old school Sears warranties. If something breaks, you walk in there and tell them and they go grab one of the shelf, hand it to you, and send you on your way (at least in my experience).

Obviously, for certain things, I will splurge on a good name brand, but for these types of bits and drivers and whatnot, HF is the way to go if you have one near by. Just plug your nose when you go in there because it has an extremely strong odor of plastic and glue.

thanks a lot for that harbor freight link!! i have actually never been to one before, but i have heard whispers of them throughout the internet. turns out there is one like 10 minutes from my house that has that 16pc set for 5 bucks in stock right now! gonna go grab it today! i like it, its cheap and looks pro - a PRECISION SET!!! sounds nice too, i work on computers a lot too, so it will come in handy for that too i think :D

so u guys think its safe to use loctite on quads? won't it work itself into the motors?

the reason why my screws kept coming out is because the first time i didnt have them in tight (used a torx driver instead of hex so they didnt go inside properly) and the second time i was use random phillips screws that i found and those came out - but my new set of falcons screws should come from banggood in a day or 2, so hoping it goes good!

The bulk of people who fly quads use a blue, medium hold, thread locker on almost all screws that are metal to metal. Loctite being the biggest brand.

You only need a tiny amount and if you are worried about it migrating just let it set a bit before you screw it in.

just came home from harbor freigth and got the 16pc precision set xD

it was kinda smelly, and it took me like 20 minutes to find somebody to help me find the set - but i got it :D

not sure how these hex drivers are supposed to work, but cant seeem to get enough torque to spin the screws and my hand gets sweaty and starts slipping, using my set of allen wrenches seems to work better tbh

That's why the regular sized handle drivers are the thing to get. Like a normal sized screw driver handle. Go even more fancy with a ratcheting handle.

Im still learning too. I enjoy fixing things though, so crashing isnt so bad for me. I cant count how many props ive broken in the last month...i started with the eachine 250 racer and its was a perfect RTF starter quad. now im building and trying to tune a 450 class quad which is a lot more difficult than i thought, but i still enjoy it. the more i learn the more i like the hobby.

AS A NOOB***Things i would recommend:
-order different props and sizes, compare, and order tons of them. seriously. I broke at least 6 props today and i didnt have to stop flying once.
-more batteries/more practice
-cheap parts=more work/more problems/more frustration
-dont be afraid to fly slow or in smaller areas. i practice flying around the base of trees as obstacles. itll help you better understand the controls and later a better understanding of what you are tuning.

Some good points besides the ER 250... I have mixed feelings about that quad. I had 3 of them, one I lost, another I burnt up the PDB and hardly got to fly it. It became a parts quad. All of them had cheap parts. Arms are crap. VTX is crap. Cameras are junk. Escs are junk. the proprietary CC3D board is crap. Motors? two failed but I have eight total with varied flight time, so I Built a 230 x frame that I'm going to test out with the ER 250 motors.
The best thing about the ER250 "RTF" is it gets you right into fixing and learning how quadcopters work, because they are crap. That was my experience anyway.

You are right. The quad is not the best quality. I snapped the cc3d usb off because no battery stop. The bolts would break out of the thin brass sleeve and be unusable. I removed all fpv equipment after breaking of the transmitter mushroom. AND all but one BEC capacitor off the PDB..... BUT. BIG BUT HERE. I broke countless props and crashed soooo hard countless times. EVEN dumped it upside in deep puddles more than once and it kept flying until i lost the BECs. Totally impressed

i got the eachine falcon 250, which is supposed to be a clone of the zmr250, ive crashed quite a few times but so far its been pretty solid i think. i replaced the stock props with DAL 5045s and have not even bent a single prop since xD i broke one of the motor tilts on my second or third crash, at which point i just took them all off. i cracked one of the arms a little bit, but was able to pop it back in and its been fine several crashes and successful landings since.

just had my second flawless flight xD starting to get really comfortable with my thumbs :) i wish i had my runcam because a hawk or something gave my quad a love tap, almost knocked me down but i was able to recover xD getting that muscle memory down nicely so where i can react a lot smoother instead of panic.

i was just taking it easy doing a slow cruise in circles above me, and then i hear *SCREEEECH* fly over me and then my quad started sliding like crazy down in a weird angle, but i gave it some counter pitch and yaw, and was back at it, and saw the hawk fly by on screen, it was really cool - wish i had my runcam!!!

but at the end i landed safe and in 1 piece and nice and smooth. before i was trying to land perfectly on my landing pad square, but i can tell thats going to take a while to master, so now i just kinda come down slowly at an angle like an airplane, then use the right stick to keep my nose slightly up, and then just cut the throttle when im like 1-2 ft above the ground and land flatly on the ground xD

Just flew another successful sortie :)

This time I managed to land a few feet away from me after the alarm went off. I start panicking when the alarm goes off, so gotta work on breathing slow and just landing back to relaxed rather than getting scared.

I smacked the ground a little at one point cus a strong gust of wind came and surprised me when I was flying low, but gave it some throttle and was fine.

Today I flew higher and farther away ! Went around the tree at the far side of the park :)

I've had swallows try to mob my quad a few times, think if i'm too close to where they're nesting, or something - gets a bit hairy trying to avoid them, since I'm sure they'd be sliced in half by my cf props

hit a tree this morning, didnt realize it even, not sure if i hit the tree, of the tree hit me, idk what happened - but watched on screen as i tumbled my way down and landed upside down....then i realized i had no idea where i was!! but luckily i still had video feed (since i got the battery strapped down nicely it wont disconnect very easily :) ) and was able to find it - dusted it off (love these dal props, didnt even bend) and was back in the air!

then i noticed my quad kept flying up in a weird angle....turns out the camera started pointing up when it crashed, so i aimed it back down - so thats next on my list - make sure camera is pointed properly before taking off!

also i use spray can air duster between crashes to get off all the sand and dirt and etc. pro tip from my friend: compressed air cans are like chevron with techron for your drone - spray it clean regularly and things should keep running indefinitely :) (even a little bit of dirt in the quad can cause a short which can cause other things to break.)
