Husban X4 502e control issues

I have some limited experience with flying quads so but have tried to fly my Desire X4 quad a few times but I still can't control it correctly. It seems that with other quads I have flown that when I let the sticks return to center the quad would level out. This quad seems to want to stay rolling to the left or right after the stick is centered so it won't auto-level. This means I need to compensate by moving the stick the opposite direction to level out. This makes the quad very difficult to fly.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you eliminated the basics? Before you do anything, re-calibrate the gyros. Then adjust trims once it's in the air. I don't know what the transmitter command is to calibrate the gyros on your quad, but a Google search should get you the info. "calibrate gyros Hubsan Desire".

It forces me to calibrate the compass each time I fly. I also tried the horizontal calibration. I flew it after the horizontal calibration and it almost hovered in place for a minute and then it started drifting and then was not responding well to the controls.
I can't find a calibrate gyros for this 502e model.

Have you tried the gyro calibration process for the 107D? I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same. Turn on the Tx and quad and bind. Then hold the left (throttle) stick down right, and move the right stick full left and full right, back and forth until you get a couple of flashes from the front LED's.

No idea if this will work, but it's worth a try. If you get the confirmation flashing from the front LED's I'd take that as proof that this is the gyro calibration procedure for yours as well.

Yeah that actually seemed to work. If I remember correctly, all the leds flashed and not only the front.
I was able to fly it fine until the battery got down to 2 bars. It got harder to fly them but that is probably related to brushed motors and geared props.

I wonder why this calibration is not mentioned in the manual.

Chinese manufacturers don't seem to think it's necessary to write decent manuals. This was a shot in the dark based on some YouTube searches...glad it worked!
