hubsan x4 only getting 50 feet range?

WTF Yo!

I thought these were capable of up too 100 meters. I converted my Hubsan x4 guts onto an after market frame and it flies like a dream but it only gets like 50 feet range. I'm not sure what that is all about. I've covered the board with electrical tape to help hold it on top of the foam tape used to place it on the cf frame. no shorts or anything. It's great other then I can't even go across the street with it for the most part. Any ideas? Also the radio has been having trouble more and more binding with the receiver. maybe it's going bad but it's super new.

Why? You sure your unneeded tape isn't screwing something up? Didya mess up the antenna? Is it sticking straight up at least?

Thanks for the reply Jackson. The "Unneeded" The Tape? I'm not sure. I don't even see an antenna on it. Is there an antenna? I figured it was just something built into the board itself. Could the tape be messing with it. Maybe i'll try without but it's driving me nuts.

Usually you see a short piece of wire. If not look for something that looks like a squiggly line on the board itself and make sure nothing is touching or blocking it. What is your frame made of?

Okay I found the antenna. It's a long wiggly line at the front end of the fc. I cleared any wires and tape away from it but still no luck. it just hits this dead spot about 40 to 50 feet out. I'm not sure why it's so poor. The frame is carbon fiber but the board isn't touching anywhere. The quad flies solid. Not weird twitching or anything. It just hits a wall and drops from the sky.

CF is good at blocking signals. Maybe you can figure out a way to get the PCB a little higher on your frame. Have you tried holding your TX at different angles? As an experiment try taking off nose in and fly backwards (keeping your altitude low) while holding your TX vertically
