I am looking to find an experienced pilot near me to help out. Is there a way to see members that are near Gilroy CA?

This seems to an old thread...with no outcome.
The suggestion to create an app, is sound...but making apps needs skill and patience...for almost no return...unless you run adds and affiliate links.
But back to the topic, finding help near you...is a pain. Take up RCfixed wing...and you have no problem joining a club and getting all the help you need.
Take up "quadcopters" and unless you have s mate that hooked you...you are are are on your own. This is demonstrated by the number of posts asking for help and then sliding back into the dark side not seen again.
Help with new build....get the info they need...gone and we never find out how the build progressed and performed.
Side shift...for app insert website.....will make no difference.
I am also on a dedicated Phantom forum, it has a section for meet ups. For the whole of Australia less than twenty put up their location. like the US, we are state based and it's no good being in Sydney on the east coast ...getting invites from guys in Perth on the west coast. I found one guy who is 50 km away...and he is also looking for others to form a group!
People just dont want to take time to join lists and many don't like the idea of taking ...in this instance...a backpack with a phantom P3 and all the kit ..maybe $2500 upwards...to meet a couple of strangers who say they fly quads.
I think the exceptions are those who get into the racing side of our hobby.
But even so it seems an hard slog to find them as a newbie.
I even put a wanted add in Gumtree...wanted help from experienced quadcopter

In an area where there is a RC aero club....who also cater for quads...nobody replied.
I went to visit the club...1 guy there on gate opening duty...no flying and conversation gave out the those with quads...just messed about with them while waiting their turn to fly their fixed wing stuff!
Let's hope things can change....

The thing about apps... is that people hate to buy anything! Most seem to think an app can be created overnight and should not cost more that$1.50. ( I have 21 eBooks in the Apple iBooks store and if I price at more than $5 - they dont sell!
Relevance: IF such an app was available free everybody on this forum would try it. IMHO once discovered if anybody was near by or that there was nobody nearby.... it done with! Such an app would rely on people sending information. I refer to my post above - most people do not seem to like registering and giving more info about themselves and where they are located.
EDIT:
There is a website in th Uk acting as a quad owners registry - there are just 21 locations mapped and the majority are DJI Phantom/Inspire and flamewheels. In the whole of Scotland - there are 2 entries - 1 DJI Phantom and 1 DJI Inspire. I guess the DJ stuff is on the website in case of flyaways.
Just looking at the others -- only found 2 so far that seem to be "fun fly quads".
The site is not intended to help pilots find each other - in so far as there is no way to contact each other - at least none I found!
Websites or apps depend on advertising there availability other wise they are invisible to the world!

I have hosting in the UK for my websites - I use 1&1Uk which is like all the others... far from perfect and only interested in emptying your pockets!
Bearing in mind my last post. Run a poll on this forum and I guess almost everybody would say yes -go for it.
I thought about doing a website - without the mapping just a simple entry contact through the website to keep privacy and just like a dating site...( steady guys) pass people info according to request and then let the pilots decide if they want to meet up.... and this what I am doing for the Aussies on a state by state basis due to the size of the country! It sounds simple - but i am sure if you know webby stuff... its time consuming and tricky in parts to get the scripting sorted out and PHP is not my best subject!
If you have the time - why not do it - stick some Google ads and maybe it will raise a few shekels to pay the site registration fees!
BTW - are you the guy in Melbourne who mentioned helping with when I first mentioned my new web venture a while back??
Put some ads in, not the annoying ones may provide 5% or the cost, but it would be a little xD. As for interest, there would be some, but the real target would not be forums, it would be face book groups.
