How can I fly one handed whuch quad would suit me?

greetings all total newbie here ..... My issue is I have a disability and my left hand is not so great .
I currently learn on a syma x5sw a great little flyer my goal is to get pics or videos of my dog chasing kangaroos.
so I need to learn to fly I am sorta getting it happening but thought with a altitude hold quad it might free up the throttle control as I currently fly one handed and to jump from one stick to the next with my right hand those micro seconds get me into trouble .
would a alt hold quad free up my left hand so I could mostly fly with my right hand?
I was thinking my next step to a alt hold quad would be a syma x25 pro?

Another option you could explore is cell phone control drones using the accelerometer - tilt your cell phone 2 fly your drone. the goolsky fg700s is an example. I don't know if the range's adequate.

I imagine this is fairly tough, but can see this guy controlling both sticks with one hand, believe he explains it a bit in the video.


Really with a phone tilting in all directions you could control pitch roll and yaw but maybe could use a foot pedal for throttle input. If you have some technical know how and time I'm sure this is doable but might need a few gizmos between the phone/pedal interface and transmitter to translate things (also some simple phone app to relay accelerometer data).

If you were to modify both this and a cheap radio to work with eachother, then you could fly the quad with a stick for added cool factor.

I've flown with a similar stick on an FPV sim. It feels weird, and the stick is not as sensitive as our controllers, but you can fly. If you replaced the pots on the stick with nicer ones that might make it more sensitive.

Got me started on this one hand flying idea...
Finding videos about flying both quadcopters and fixed-wing with joystick. Plus a mini-quad that's controlled by tilting a (one) handheld Mouse - Techboy TB802, review by Quadcopter 101.
Also, at indestructibles.com are articles on building a system to fly a quad with a computer. Possibly enabling use of joystick or mouse.

thanks for all the replies I sorta use the style of the guy in the first video his right arm was buggered I am the opposite my left is not 100% like his style though and a good pilot ......................

I would think a full GPS drone would be best. Depends on how useless your left is. The left is used just for ascending, descending and rotating. Most of the work is done with the right.

The left is used just for ascending, descending and rotating......exactly Tentoes but if you cant trust your left and have to watch your left hand by that time you are way off course somewhere I feel if I had alt hold it would free me up a bit to fly with my right hand I know I will never be a fpv racer but I enjoy it

Just using a single stick for roll and pitch you could relatively easily get a foot pedal as input for the throttle and think that would be pretty intuitive just put the pedal to the metal to punch out and if it's spring loaded will return to idle/off. Only thing you'd be missing is yaw control then I haven't really thought of a great way to do that maybe an accelerometer on the head or something but would need to put it on some part of your body you'll voluntarily control easily.

It seems your primary purpose is for taking videos. In which case yaw/rotation is very important. Otherwise you can fly round with right stick only as long as you have gps/altitude hold. And dont care whuch way quad/camera is facing.

There are lots of fancy transmitter/controllers out there, with a myriad of buttons, switches. These can be programmed to do anything. Not an expert, but assuming yaw could be one of them.

Maybe someone who uses one these fancy controllers can shed more light on this capability.

Just got an idea swinging back and forth in my chair at work, you could use the swinging of a chair left or right as the yaw control if you hook up a potentiometer to the chair can use that as the input to the yaw control... I'm going to see if I can make this work with some 3d printed parts just for kicks (hopefully can get a bar stool from somewhere for cheap that I can drag out to the field easily). Might be a few weeks since I have a lot of random weird projects like this going already (creating beer delivery self driving cooler as work side project and forever working on a mpcnc machine).

thanks all yeah I bought a syma x25sw all the goodies had to do some work on the x5 bad crash on the other side of the Barcoo river high wind blew me across Herbie the dog flushed out heaps of roos had to rev the motors here n there to find the quad in the scrub then I thought a motor was dead but turned out to be a pinion gear spacer had moved all fixed and waiting on the x25 in the post
