Help! Swollen battery after 3 flights

It could be a number of things. Do you have a low voltage warning? Lipos aren't like nimihs where you just run them down until they die, they shouldn't be drained below 3.7 volts per cell. So in the case of your 4S, 14.8 volts.
What kind of charger are you using? A fully charged lipo should read 4.2 volts per cell. So your 4S should be 16.8 volts when fully charged.
Lastly, mismatched motor, props, gearing, calibration can cause too much current drain and too much strain on the battery. This is the most common cause of puffing but with your setup I doubt this is the problem. I must mention though, if you're using a cheap battery with a C rating of 30, this may be an inflated number. If it was in fact only 15 or 20, then yeah your battery may not be able to handle the power your motors are drawing.

to renov8r : Well this is embarrassing! I ran the battery down to zero.
I didn't know not to do this.
The battery got so low that the ESCs rebooted!
I ordered 2 new batterys : Tattu 1300mah 75C 4S1P, and a voltage alarm.
to Jackson, yes everything is rated for 4s.
To GJH : Its the xhover 230 with the cc3d computer, using 25 amp ESC, 2300 kv motors

Simple mistake, just be glad that it did not cost you a model or cause a fire in your home
You'll really like the Tatu battery I think hahaha.
You'd better change a new battery, your battery is very danger, maybe your battery is very bad or you use a wrong way to charge and discharge your battery. You should change a new 4s lipo battery.

I made the same mistake, I was amazed @ the punch a 1500mah 45-70C nano tech gave out. My ZMR250 went like a rocket. I got about 7-8 two hundred foot punch outs then it died the battery was so hot & when I tried to charge it, it was down to about 2.8 per cell. I charged on nicad setting till they got above 3v.
(very dangerous) Then it charged but it was never the same. As an experiment I maxed the whole battery out in one go, it puffed it melted it was dead. One cell didn't even register. These days I don't even charge em unless I'm going to use them the same day.
So my advice is do your homework on lipo's. Sort the battery monitoring out or get a cheap battery alarm. I have 8 battery's well 7now, 5 turnigy & 2 floureon. Been using the turnigy from the start, well since May & they puffing up a bit now. The floureon are solid still. The cells ain't matched now & again but there is ways round that. I'm hearing good thing about the tattu battery's & overlander. I'm gonna step my game up soon with some tiger F40's, F390 ESC's & 4S battery's now I'm not crashing much. I did crash tday tho LOS acro is hard. My number 2 quad is batterd a bit so I thought what the heck. Mis judged my thrust on a loop. Broke a prop & the fibre glass frame is buckled a bit more than it was when it hit the ground like a scud missile. So yeah save yo self some £££ or $$$ & do your homework on battery's.

I'm currently experimenting with Turnigy's new Graphene lipos. What I've noticed so far is they stay cooler, they're lighter and there's no noticeable difference in power from start to end of a cycle. I've got a 10,000 mah that I'm using in my 650 Sport (it's the size of a Toyota Prius) but I've got of these ordered for my 220X build.

I forgot to say to the OP, when your done with your batteries for the day, charge them for storage. It not only lengthen's the life of the battery but it is also quicker to charge them for next time. I mainly fly at weekends when off work. So if I go out early & plan on going out again, I stick them in the fridge for half an hour to cool em down before I charge em again.
It takes me about 30min to do 6 battery on my 6 dock charge plate. The most I been out is 5 times in a day. You can nvr have too many batteries. Amen
