Help!! Rookie here that doesnt have a clue.

Ok so I bought this Syma X8G around Thanksgiving. Due to the weather I have had limited practice time but kinda got the basic hang of it. I flew it about a month ago and everything was fine with the drone. Went to fly it this weekend and I couldnt even get it to hover. It DRASTICALLY pulled (tipped) to the left. Come to discover the left rear prop was not starting as quickly as the the others and I kinda dont think its RPM is matching the others. Does anyone think this is a motor problem or a board problem?

motor could be bad. Run it for a few minutes and see if it heats up more than the others. Can try spraying 3n1 oil or WD40 into the top and bottom of the motor. It has berrings. could be dirt in it.

ESC either works or it doesn't

Does the quad have bullet connectors or are the motors and esc all soldered to the pdb? Sometimes connectors get damaged in a crash and loose a solid connection which will cause erratic behavior.

Easy enough to check. Swap the motor with another. If the swapped motor does the same, it is a connection problem. If not, probably the motor.


Would not bother repacing the berrings. The motors are 10 bucks. you would have to pay me more than that to order the berrings then spend the time to take it apart and change them.

Hi mate the coreless motors never last long even a small tip over can mess the motor up , if you shop around you can get upgraded more powerful coreless motors but at the end of the day they are still coreless , the best route is learn on this quad then jump up to a brushless motored quad

I have a Syma X8C (as do many others) and I love it. But, as holtneil says, all brushed motors have a limited lifespan. Hopefully you didn't order just one motor - you bought a set of at least four. They will all need to be replaced, eventually, and if you put enough hours on it, repeatedly. But that's perfectly OK. I solved that problem by just ordering 8 spares. Syma helped solve that problem by making the motors VERY easy to replace. No soldering needed - they plug in. You'll need a small philips screwdriver.

It's just part of it and as long as you know that, there's nothing wrong with a brushed quad. The motors for my Syma X5C-1 happen to be the same exact motor as my Hubsan H107L, and I fly both of those a lot so I just keep a dozen or so motors around. Those motors are smaller and dirt cheap compared to the larger X8C motors, and they do need to be soldered in. I don't mind that either.

My next quad will be brushless but I imagine I'll always have some brushed quads that I fly, so I'll always have spare motors on hand. It goes with the territory.

Thanks Jeff. Ya I did get the set of 4. Trying to get up some motivation to install them as a loooooong day at work today. And, do you guys recommend replacing all 4 at the same time or just replace the suspected faulty one?

My 2 cents - replace them one at a time as they wear out. Just get good at it so you can do it in 10 minutes. And always have another quad or three to fly, in case today is the day one of the motors burns out on your X8C. You don't want a little thing like a burnt-out motor to spoil your day of flying - just grab one of your other quads to fly, and put the new motor in later.

That has not been my experience. I replace like-for-like and I've never had a new one outperform the others. My spare motors for a given size are all the same. I guess if you buy a set of motors that are labeled "upgrades" (faster spinning), then replace all four at the same time, obviously.

Ok so I FINALLY installed my new motors. Quad is doing the same thing. Upper left motor starts later than the other 3 and the quad darts left and of course wipes out. I installed ALL 4 of the new motors because it did the same thing after I replaced just the one suspected faulty motor. Im thinking this is not a motor problem but something else. Any advice guys?

Yes. I have a multimeter. Any idea what the out put should be or I guess it doesnt mater as long as they are the same, right? If they are not the same, then what do I do?

I think Jackson's talking about gyro calibration. Start your quad like you normally would. Then push both sticks on your transmitter down and then to the right. You'll get rapid flashing LEDs for a second and when they go back to solid, you're calibrated

yes I do the gyro calibration everytime. I wil check the output to each motor and make sure the gearing is well lubed but after that it has to be the board, I'm thinking.

Hey fastvette..........there's another calibration procedure also...............after doing the "down and right" calibration...........hold your sticks "down and left

Yup I do that everytime too... the upper left motor still is delayed compared to the rest of the motors. I just now ordered a new board. I didnt yet check the voltage output yet.
