well I am not sure if you can get a good idea of what I want, but the DJI inspire 1 is the frame I building. with a few tweaks. but still the same size.
the FCB will most likely be the Crius all in one pro or the cc3d(depending if I want it just for flying and looks or a camera) and im actually building 2 of them. 1 for me and one for my brother.

it looks like a good 2 feet in length and 1 in width and probably 1 foot in height once in the air.

EDIT: id say probably around 13 inch props if not more or less, id like to make those myself but if they get any bigger i guess Id have to buy them. well lift should be nice and smooth. I don't really care for it shooting up or anything. I might add a gimbal too so the bottom has to have space for a gopro or something that size. I will make the legs big enough for that though too give it space down there

DJI usually uses 9'' props, but I think the Inspire 1 uses 13'' it is less than 2 feet for sure maybe 1.7feet. You only need ~13.5'' from motor to motor What type of budget do you have?

I plan on spending about 250. This is without the frame which im making

20-40 for fcb
~10-15 for each motor
~5 pdb
10-20 battery
? extraWires( male to male servo leads?)
10-20 bec(i need just 1 right?)
10-15 esc(with bec on each)
40-60 transmitter+reciever

So overall id say 250. Is that enough for a decent quad?

Yes, mine would cost about that, it is going to get really tight though, you don't need a BEC unless you get (OPTO) ESCs.
You may drop down to 12'' props to save a little money.

Here are some parts I just threw together in five minutes, so they are just to give you an idea on cost in your price range.
Here are some motors $14.82 x4
Here is a PDB $3.70 x1
Here is a 30a ESC $9.99 x4
Here are some 12x4.7 CF props $9.00 x2+
Here is a 3000 mah zippy LiPo $14.30 x1+
Here are some servo leads $1.86 x1+
Here is a Turnigy 9x, you could also get a Orange for the same price (Transmitter) $60 x1
Here is a FC (Crius All in one pro) for ~$24 x1

EDIT: I just looked and you for these motors would be better suited with these props and defiantly this battery.

Remember it will be cheaper to save your money and buy everything at once, and won't take you much if any longer to get it into the air. This will allow HK to be cheaper than buying it from about anyone else.

The cirtius is based on the arduino. I'll look into how you would upload your own software.

I'll take another look at them, I really did not spend any time choosing them.

The ESCs are nice, the motors may be nice but they just about need a 6s to run 12'' props.
They can run as low as a 3s, but I don't think the ESCs will handle the 6S, so either the ESC or motor should be changed.

Here is an ESC that will do 6S ,but it is only 20a. 20a will work but you should have a 24a or higher.

Here are a few to choose from. they are either back order or (OPTO)
Here is one that will work great, but you'll need a BEC because they are (OPTO)
Cheap but again (OPTO)

Instead of going through the trouble of hard to get parts, here is a replacement motor that will run the exact same props on a 4S battery.

so this is the updated list Changed the ESC, Motor, props, and battery

Here are some motors $15.39
Here is a PDB $3.70 x1

Here are some 12x6 CF props $9.49 x2+ <---- These 6'' pitch props give a lot more thrust over the 4.7 or 4.5. If you have 6' inches of pitch on a prob don't get plastic, too much pitch and they have a high chance of exploding if you hammer the throttle.
Here is a 4S 3000 mah zippy LiPo $16.95 x1+
Here are some servo leads $1.86 x1+

what do you think is better, the turnigy 9x or the orange?

The 9x has more channels if you think you may add a bunch of little things, I would get it.

If you wanted the ability to do a LRS later then I'd get this set. I know it is a little expensive, and does not come with everything at once, but if you think you'll do RC for a while this will last you.

The pitch of the props is how steep the blades are. The ones in the link I sent you are carbon fibre, I don't think they are made with 6'' pitch in plastic, but if so don't get them. Standard pitches are 4.5, 3.7, and 6.


Turnigy 9x Really cheap, and good quality, if you get the Turnigy pro version for a good bit more you can do a LRS
Spektruim (Great quality; Dx6i, Dx6, or Dx7)
Orange (great quality, cheapest on this list, and receivers work with most Spektruim products)
FrySky (makes a good yet cheap 9X probably the cheapest full range 9 channel Tx)"

ah ok, thanks. I think im going to go for either the t9x. sadly theyre in their international warehouse only. :/

as for the propellers, would my quad have issues if I used 8 or 9 inch props? what would happen?

do I need a bec? or is this bec the one where I connect the motors too? sry for the newb question. woops I just read again and you said to buy 4 of the the esc(ubec)....my mistake.

If you wanted to use smaller props you'd have less lift. You could compensate by using a 5 or 6 S battery and ESC combo, because your motor will handle that.

If you want smaller props like 8-9 you could go with a 1000kv motor setup.

ah, well I ordered everything already except for the props lol. when you say lift you mean its payload capacity or its power to get off the ground? Ill get the size you suggested, its no biggie. I also ordered the item that's gonna allow me to upload the crius firmware.

I was about to order the turnigy 9x from their international warehouse. It came out to $192!!!! Thats insane!! Lol i guess ill waot for them to come back in stock.
