Hello everyone! My name is Jim and like the title says I am a fellow RC addict! That's right I got it bad! Always have and always will!!!
I got into RC about 10 years ago and my first rig was a Traxxas Bandit VXL. I will never forget that day. I came home, charged up a lipo, set it down in the street and pulled the trigger. Man that thing shot straight across and straight into a storm drain and disappeared! I thought I was going to puke as I watched 400.00 worth of plastic and electronics disappear.......I was hooked!
I got into it bad and the next thing I know I had personal relationships with the UPS,FedEx and Mailman! So I stayed into RC Land for a few years but I lived by a lake also and the next thing I know I sold all my trucks and got into boats( Kind of a agreement with the wife at some point that I would sell RC stuff of mine to support new Rc stuff I wanted) and before long I was building boats and hooking up. I had 31" mono's screaming across the lake at 60-70 mph and loving it! Even convinced my wife I needed a fishing Kayak so i could retrieve the boats when they flipped! Understand my wife is above awesome. She actually let me redo our backyard( And we had a beautiful big yard in a nice neighborhood) and build a RC track so all my friends could come over and play! I am 48 and act like 15!!!
Anyways....one night I was on you tube and come across RC airplane videos and before I knew it I had sold all my boats and was ordering a couple planes!!! I joined a near by air field, got buddy boxed and signed off to fly and was in the air loving it!!! It wasn't long after that we moved to North Georgia and bought some property and I found out that you cannot really fly planes in the woods so I needed a new hobby.
I sold all my planes and dumped all my cash into Ham radio and became a Ham radio operator. BORING!!!! (But come to find out my Ham Operators license will come into use here soon!)
I just couldn't handle sitting in my office by myself tuning a radio looking for someone to talk to so once again I sold all my equipment and bought me a new ARRMA Kraton and got back into trucks and before I knew it I found a local track and got way deep into racing Short course trucks! Which brings me to now................I have sold all my trucks and I am getting into drones!!!
I bought myself a SYMA X5C-1 just to see if i would like flying a drone and what is up with all the hype and I have it bad...... I LOVE IT!!!!!! From flying planes I understand that I need to learn to fly properly before dumping in on a expensive rig and either destroying it or finding out that the one I got is not the type I wanted. So that is who I am and where I am at in this endeavor. I appreciate it you have read this far. I love flying my X5C-1 and about a hour ago my neighbor the next property over told me to come over. He and his wife bought me a Sharper Image DX-4 with FPV ( he got one too) which I have charging at the moment and I am very excited!!! It is another drone that doesn't cost much but I will be able to check out the concept of FPV to see if I want to go that route which is what I want to do really. I want to get as close to flying as I can without having to flap my arms really hard to try to get off the ground!!! I plan to be a very active member in this group and look forward to sharing my expierences as well as hearing yours and indulging in all the info this forum has to offer! Thanks for reading and calm winds to all!!!!!
