For a first quad you cant really beat a syma x5c-1 for a larger size and a Bayang X9 for something smaller.
The bayang x9 is what ive been flying the most since getting one...Parts are super super cheap for it and its more stable than anything i own at this point.
For its price point, im not sure anything beats it...I think i paid $23.00 with an extra battery from china.
I cant really take anything away from hubsan except for maybe price point compared to others with similar performance...One thing about the H107L is the body is really garbage..The second day i had mine, i cracked an arm landing in grass non the less then the next day it broke off enough to hang down and make it not flyable...The plastic is so cheap that crazy glue wont even stick to it to repair it.
The H107L was an effort from hubsan to use feedback from customers to "improve" the original x4...Lights were added to the arms and rubber landing pads were added...They also replaced a component on the flight board that had issues with breaking off during a crash in some cases...Its certainly an improvement over the first version...I guess with its age the price is dropping but ,its not where it needs to be...I got mine on some sort of flash sale for $19.99 shipped from the banggood USA warehouse.
I ended up taking the guts out of it to build a custom quad and let me tell you its no easy task to get that body apart or easy to even do a simple motor change....I wouldnt want to change the body every time one broke on me or replace motors on this model.
The motors are among some of the best however, power wise..The flight boards are quality built and the transmitter is more sophisticated than some others..The pricing is what turns me off most with them and, finding out how cheap the bodys are and, repair difficulty added to that.
I cant really tell you its a mistake buying a hubsan x4 but, its just not in my opinion for someone just starting out.
