[I'm brand new to quadcopter & FPV technologies. I've done a fair amount of reading. I've been a member of other forums where a newb comes in and starts firing questions without doing some homework. I don't want to be that guy. That being said - I'm looking for some general guidance. But feel free to tell me to go do some homework and come back if these are too simplistic.]
I'm wanting to build a remote monitoring solution using an FPV camera, transmitter and receiver. The application is looking at a target for long range shooting. Distance requirement is 1,000 - 1,800 yards (1650 meters).
* Line of sight is guaranteed.
* I'm not concerned with bandwidth/throughput of real-time video. At its most simplistic I just need a static image periodically - so I can see the state of the target. But I realize given the available technologies video may be the easiest thing to do. And video would be an added benefit. I'm mostly conveying that typical issues like lag are of no concern.
* Given this setup isn't flying I have a lot of freedom to power it in such a way that I don't really care about weight. I say this in case it helps with addressing the distance problem.
My primary question focuses on frequency choice to cover this distance. In some of the reading I've done 1.2 GHz seems to do better than 5.8 GHz. 1/ Is that true? 2/ Any opinions re the ability for 5.8 GHz to cover that distance given I can guarantee line of sight is maintained?
There is a scenario where audio and video transmission would be desired. Sometimes the remote target is a piece of steel - so picking up the sound of the hit is desired. Any general guidance on products (camera with integrated audio as well as good A/V transmitter)?
Thank you very much!
