Hello everyone!
So while cleaning out my late parent's house I found a budget quad, still in its original packaging (unopened) in my dad's basement. Having always wanted to try flying a quad, naturally I dropped everything and put it together. It's an HR SH5, the "fixed" version -- the black version in the first image seen here (specs in link). The instruction manual is... not great. It's primarily in Chinese with secondary instructions in somewhat broken English. I can't find supplemental instructions online and their website doesn't seem to exist.
Anyway, I worked out the instructions competently enough to put the parts together and get it airborne. It worked great at first. The controller has a button for "take off" which just brings it to a hover at about 5 or 6 feet off the ground. I flew it around my backyard for 10 or 15 minutes with a couple minor crashes into the grass. The thing is light as a feather so crashes into the grass didn't seem to bother it, at least at first.
After a little bit however it started to drift pretty hard and have trouble staying up. Eventually the "take off" button just caused it to tip over without leaving the ground at all (as if one side was too strong, or the opposite was too weak). I used the "fine adjustment" buttons on the controller to at least keep it from tipping itself over, but it wouldn't lift off anymore. I figured perhaps the battery was nearing empty so I threw it on the charger.
After a full charge, however, there's no difference. It still just tips itself over to one side without lifting off. Messing with the fine adjustment makes it level but doesn't result in enough lift to actually hover. You can hear that the rotors speed up as if it were trying to take off (like, moreso than just turning it on), but it just sits there.
I understand diagnosing something like this is probably impossible just from my description, but does this seem like simply the predictable result of a few (pretty weak) crashes with a cheap quad? None of the rotors appear damaged or bent in any way. There's no obvious debris causing issues. It cost me nothing, so it's no real loss if it's already junked, but I don't wanna give up. I spent probably 90 minutes over three different sessions pouring over the manual and trying to get it airborne again to no avail. Those were a fun 15 minutes while it worked and I was just getting the hang of controlling it. And unfortunately I shouldn't spend money to just get a newer one, as much as I want to.
Cheers if anyone has suggestions. I'm open to trying anything, minus a complete replacement -- at least for now
