First quadcopter build, need part list.

Hello, this is my first post. So i want to build quadcopter, i'm beginner and don't understand anything from quadcopters. So i just want to know if it's possible that someone make part list from hobbyking with all parts i need, including transmitter. I look at 450mm frame or more. The budget is around 200$ if the budget is too small i can increase it. Maybe i need to copy parts from RTF models? Later i want to upgrade it and add gimbal. Thanks! :)

Glad to see you join. $200 is a nice beginner's budget, shipping will be the fastest way to beak it though, so be mindful of that when ordering to avoid buying from the same distributor twice. Do you plan on doing anything like FPV?

Take a look at Sai's page, there are some starter kits to consider. Read some of this. It talks about parts needed and flying etiquette. This is a great list of commonly used terms and abbreviations.

Hi, thanks for reply! I'm happy that in here is so helpful peoples! Yes, in future ill think about FPV too. Now i just want to fly, but later upgrade it with gimbal and other things. So i read that for gopro or something like that i need frame 450mm or more, right? I want to build quadcopter which I can improve in the future.

So i try to make my part list, please let me know if i forget something, or i need to change some parts. Yes transmitter, i can't figure out what transmitter will be best for me. And i have battery charger from my rc car.

Hi mate the kk is good but go for the kk 2.1.5 hard case the lcd unplugs when in flight so the FCB will fit inside the frame and this protects it , also get the flash tool as the steves1.8s1pro is more stable than the hobby king firmware
You need a BEC as the esc does not have a power out for the FCB and receiver

The props are ok but go for the 10x4.7 these will give you a bit more lift for when you go FPV
As for the power board check the xt60 mine had no solder it was the heat shrink was all that held the wires on
These ESCs will work better with the motors they have blheli firmware the other can make motors run out of sink

As for transmitters this is really personal taste but the orange ones are clones of the spekturm dx6i so are full range

Hi! Thanks for reply. So i just need to change ESCs and propellers (i cant find 4 propeller set in HK, maybe I did not notice them ) , and i need only one BEC, right? What about cables, what i need from them? I read in comments about that ESC and peoples says "burnout at the first power on", why? And maybe there is a cheaper option for transmitter? Or this will be perfect option for beginner? Thanks! :)

There are cheaper versions for the transmitter, I bought one such recently. But now I am buying a SPEKTRUM DX6i, after not even having 20 minutes of usage in the cheaper 4ch HKtr6a (Hobby King). It did not break, I just really don't like it. I now wish I'd gotten the Orange or Spekrum and saved money. I agree with holtneil, if your budget will allow it, then I'd go for the better Tx.

Yes, you can use them. I like these. As you can see by comparing the specs, yours have a higher C rate, but are 2S. Most quadcopters are 3 or 4 S. Yours are 7.4 volts. If you wire them in series you can use them as 4200mah 4S batteries. You won't have to worry much about puffing them by drawing too much current. Here is a 4S 4000mah battery made specifically for mutirotors to compare.

NOTE: I am not saying that there are no 2S quadcopters, as my own setup will run 2-3S.

Yes, just check your motors. Your motors can use 2S-3S, but not 4S. Your ESCs can use 2s-6s. Most people don't use 2s, but you can if you want to. The S is how many cell sets are in paralel in the battery. A lipo cell is 3.7V.



EDIT, Watch out for this ESC, I just read a few reviews and many people are complaining about burnt motors.

Your ESCs are probably fine, but you might be well served to get some with a BEC on board, to save on money and weight. I like 30A ESCs because you don't have to worry about them being burn't mid flight or getting very hot. But that is just my opinion. 4S may give you a little more lift if possible, but that may be out weight by the extra weight of a second battery.

Yeah, those take up less space on your quadcopter. I have the hobbyking 30a ones, but the 20a are cheaper, you need a minimum of 20amps for your motors. The 20a will do 25burst, and your motors will burn out before that, s othe 20amp ones will be good. Most people say you need at least 5amps more for your ESC than motor. If I got anything wrong feel free to correct me. Was just looking, I don't know if you get enough thrust with 2S and such a heavy battery. You need to have a bare minimum of 1:2 weight:thrust, 1:3 is prefered. You migh t check here.

okay, now i have only few questions left. It will be better to run 3s/4s battery than 2s? What does battery cell sets change for quadcopter, only voltage? Later ill post my final part list. Thanks!

Each battery cell is 1.2v 1000ma. This is two sets in series. Having two parallel sets, and two series. The series adds up the voltage, parallel adds the capacity. If you peel the skin off of a 9v battery you will find that there are 6 AAAA batteries in series.


LiPo and Li-Ion both have 3.7v cells. When you wire your batteries in series you are adding up the voltage. The C rate stays the same, or is limited to that of the lowest C rated battery. So essentially you are just making a 4s battery. Important: never wire two batteries that are not the same together, especially in parallel. One with the least internal resistance will discharge first and probably never be bale to be used again. Test your build on ecalc before you buy anything. It will alert you to many possible errors, like too much weight for flight, high amp draw on: batteries, motor, ESC.

Hi Mark sorry was on nights , yes how to work it out is 3.7v per cell so times this by how many cells , most quads run on 3 to 4 cells so thats 11.1v 3 cell a 4 cell is 14.8v.
As for transmitter there are second hand Dx6i on the market at a good price as the new dx6 is out , but the orange is as good its just the colour that puts most off

Okay thanks guys. I need to order from eu warehouse and there isnt in stock motors what i wanted. So i need to search for another one. Maybe you can find them for me for around 14$? Because i see that shipping is expensive. :( Thanks
