First quad HK S500

built my first quad it's a S500 kit from hobby king. Added a Spektrum DX6, 2200 lipo. I've only hovered it around a few times just a few adjustments on the QQ controller and it is smooth and stable. I've flown R/C planes for quite some time so i had no problems putting this together and I balanced it both ways. But still had to use a lot of trim for hands off. Why should I need this much trim? Everything being balanced and equal shouldn't it fly straight without any trims?

Go into your receiver test and make sure everything is at 0, if not trim it to 0. You also might want to learn how to fly in just stabilization mode, it is not much (if any) harder to learn than in auto-level mode and you'll be able to fly better.

These multi-rotors are so susceptible to wind, even the slightest breeze sends it up or left or right, but I like the challenge.

GJH...everything was at Zero for initial flight test (in the basement) throttle input model would try to tip backwards had to put in about 20% forward right stick or down elevator(which is it?) to get it to lift up level. then about 10% left aileron to keep it from going right then about 5 or 10 % left rudder to stop yaw. I always try to build my models as straight, level and balanced as possible. I have built planes that flew straight off the boards with NO trimming needed. Just curious why a bolt together model would need so much. Could the less expensive motors and ESC's have enough difference in power output to cause it? I'm using a ThunderQQ flight controller its so basic it doesn't have different modes...but it was easy to setup and seems to work well...

Zec...I agree! and yes this is a new field for me I tried Elec. helis about 10 years ago didn't like it. to hard to fly, but these quads are a lot of fun so far...

Make sure the motors were on a level plain when calibrated. If the landing gear are off a little you can have the motor shafts against the bottom of a table. Probably jsut was not level when calibrated.
