[First quad-build] Please review my list so I can start buying. Thanks a lot!!

Hi there,

I'm new to building quadcopters although I've got some experience with flying them. I've looked up some different projects to start with. Eventually, I decided to start with a ZMR 250 frame made out of carbon fibre because it's a very popular frame thus there are many tutorials online on how to build one starting from the frame to 'ready to fly'. Within the last weeks I've made up a list of components to buy (atm all from banggood) and build a complete quadcopter. Still I'm not sure whether these components are suitable with eachother.

I would love to hear some recommendations for a good transmitter under 50$.


Also, I hope somebody could tell me if these items are suitable with eachother or if I'm missing some essential components before I'm able to build this quadcopter setup ready to fly. Thanks!!!

Lack of replies..... pity really - I assume the racers and or builder of 250 projects should be able to help!!
I have a similar questions as you regarding kit - looks like I would not get any replies either!!
So how did it go.. did you build or settle for ripping out hair in frustration!

The transmitter is a no go, it's meant for specific WLToys models. You need to pick a 6 channel transmitter with receiver combo.

I also suggest you go with a battery with an XT60 connector instead of the Deans (T plug) plug you chose.

That should work, your motors list ~7.6A @ 11.1V x 4 = 30.4A. That battery is rated at 45A. You should get 2, just in case one goes bad that way you won't be grounded.

You'll also need a power lead for the PDB.

Yeah in the end it went slower than I was hoping for. You need a lot of items you wouldn't think about as a newbie. So the first thing I would recommend is to watch some popular Youtube channels which show the entire list of parts you need to have before starting your build like this one. You don't want to get too fancy for your first build (there are so many cool options out there) to prevent you from getting really frustrated so I desided not to already build my quad fpv-ready

At the moment I still need to buy a transmitter (incl. receiver) and that's it. I can complete my build then.

I hope you'd get some motivation for your build out of seeing other newbies struggle and succeed ;]

Yikess, I've already bought and got the 1500mAh T-plug delivered because I didn't notice the plug was different than a XT60 connector in the description. Any suggestions if I can change this connector to a XT60 one? Or would it be smarter to just return it and go for the XT60 1500mAh you've mentioned? Thank you for your help!

Deans are OK they will work. No need to return. You'll need a Deans now (the mate with the exposed terminals) for the power lead off your PDB and at least some 14 gauge wire (12 gauge will also work) for it.

As for the remote, I'd go with the FlySky FS-T6. It's a very nice professional-grade starter remote, and is relatively cheap at around $50, especially considering that it includes a basic, but very nice, receiver. It has all of the basic features one would expect, while also having some more advanced ones such as a 20-model memory, and a port on the back for a trainer cable to connect. The included receiver is nice to have because it eliminates the hassle of binding a different brand receiver to the remote. Its pre-bound, so as soon as you connect to the drone, it should be set up and receiving. This is just my opinion on remotes, as this is the one I've had the most success with. Hope this helped!

I'd go with the FlySky FS-T6.

That model has no 3 way switch (quite handy for setting up flight modes) or failsafes. And also questionable range, a major beef.

This smaller Flysky is much more sophisticated.

It has a 3 way switch plus adjustable failsafes for all channels, PPM RXs are available.

The RXs also have dual antennas for diversity.

Setting them at a 90 degree to each other means much less chance of having a single antenna blocked while flying, banking etc.

With PPM RX there are a number of telemetry modules. How about being able to monitor your LiPos voltage right on the LCD.

Yeah, I definitely see your point! That's a nice little remote & receiver combo for the price. Kinda wish I got that one instead, though my T6 does very good and I haven't had the first complaint with it.
