First Flight With Syma X8SC - Success!

I had no trouble at all with the new Syma. It lifted off nicely and I had it under control immediately. I was heading into a pretty stiff wind, so I kept the quad going into it as much as possible. I was even able to make a video of the entire flight - first time I have made a video. The quad ran out of juice and stopped after 9 minutes, which is pretty much what the manual said it would do. Next time, I will set a timer for 7 minutes so as not to run the battery down too much.

Oh - and speaking of the instruction manual. It's in English! UNDERSTANDABLE English. This makes me a Syma fan forever.

All in all, I am very pleased with the first flight. I didn't try to do anything fancy or venture too far afield. I will say that the Syma is a little less responsive than my prior drone (XK-X300W) but that's understandable - the Syma is heavier than the XK.

We'll be going out again tomorrow, bet on that.

Glad it went well! Your battery life will improve a bit after a few cycles of the battery, too. Seems like maybe 4 or 5 cycles to reach its normal charge lifespan.

Also, check on eBay. There are replacent batteries for the Syma X8-series quads, rated at up to 2500mah. That can give you up to an additional five minutes of flight time.

I found Syma X8 series replacement batteries on eBay. They are all rated 2000 mAh. Will that do the job for more flight time? Didn't see any at 2500.

I just double checked. The 2000 is what comes with the drone, stock, so that shouldn't be any improvement. I'll keep looking ....

Don't guess, meter the battery after it stops. On my old X8 when it becomes unflyable and I've checked the battery it was rather high at ~3.9V. Just don't leave it in the quad with the lights flashing. And when it comes to wind you'll have better luck in high rate.

Also note just cuz some generic manufacturer claims 2500mAh doesn't mean they are.

These slightly more mAh batterries have decent reviews. Also when on Amazon only pay attention to 'Verified Purchase' folks.
