First Build, pre owned partial quad.

I received a partially built quad from a friend and the math is proving a little confusing to me.
is has currently
4x A2212-13T-1000KV Motors
4x Turnigy 12A plush ESCs
this is all wired into a frame with to the power distribution board, all it needs is a reciever, a control card, and a battery.with current frame and installed components it weighs 514 Grams. Help is greatly appreciated as i am very confused.

The ESCs are a tad small, but they will do, what part are you confused on?

How to do all the calulation mainly, but i as planning on using

I was having trouble figuring out if i would have enough thrust, while being concerned about burning up components. And if the ESCs were to small what would suggested replacements be?

I would just buy some 30 amp ESCs, that way you could upgrade to better motors sometime later. With your current setup 12amp are just sufficient. You should have enough thrust, and mutistar batteries are really light, definatly go with them as you don't need a very high C rate.

As far as thrust needed just take your total weight X 2.2. So lets say you end up at ~900 grams that comes out to ~485 grams of thrust per motor. You should be able to safely use your 12A ESCs to get that. I've seen tests of your motors where they can generate ~700+ grams of thrust @ 14A with a 1045 prop, but remember that's at max throttle. How often and for how long will a new flyer be going full throttle? As an inexperienced new flyer you don't want all that thrust as the quad will be harder to control. Some shorter and smaller pitch props should knock down the amps (and thrust but there again you don't 700 grams worth) and also make for a smoother flight for new guys.

I say just use the ESC if they go bad so be it. But unless you are always flying balls out I doubt that will be the case.
