I don't really want to write this, but here goes...

I'm a quad enthusiast, and I know that all the regular contributors on this forum are fellow enthusiasts too. I really enjoy the challenge of building, maintaining, upgrading and flying my quad as a harmless piece of fun and for a bit of aerial photography.

Unfortunately though, it would also be terrifyingly easy to adapt a quad into a very efficient weapon delivery system, and this website would be one of the first resources on the internet that a potential terrorist would find for build advice.

Sadly, I think we need to be somewhat suspicious about some of the requests for build advice that come through, and circumspect with the breadth of advice given - for example, the newbie who comes on the forum, has never flown before, but wants to build a quad that can fly long distances, can fly high, can fly autonomously, and can carry a payload...

It's all too easy to imagine that some day soon a quad will be used in a terrorist attack, that people will be killed, and that quads will be made illegal in several countries - I wouldn't want anyone to unwittingly allow or assist that to happen.

You bring up a valid concern. Maybe the mods can put their heads together and come up with an alert for them to monitor a particular thread. I really hate that we have to even consider this. Perhaps the silver lining in the Paris attack is the free world leaders will grow a pair, call it what it is, and put these terrorists out of our misery.

I feel terrible for the people and the families that were affected by this event, and events that have happened in the past.

I don't think this is something that can be controlled. When people want to kill they kill.

The drones they are using are different from the ones we fly from what I have read.

I would hate to see paranoia stifle this website. That said, if something seems a bit off on a post then I suggest you PM one of the mods. They can research the origin and determine how to proceed from there. There are a newbies who read about drone deliveries and photography over the Grand Canyon and they get excited. They have no knowledge of the difference between hobby grade and the professional equipment they see on TV. We don't want to stifle that enthusiasm, but, there are bad people out there who want to do bad things. It's a dilemma.
