Hello my buddy has a 3d printer. We want to build a quad from scratch. I have found a CC3D controller AR610 receiver. I use a spektrum dx6i radio. Would this work? And is there a proven esc battery motor rotor combo that I could buy? Any help would be AWESOME. thanks Wally

What do you plan on using the quadcopter for. You will probably want FPV (First Person View flight); am I correct?

1. First you need to decide your budget.
   
2. What you plan to use it for, basically just so you know how much you will need to lift.
3. Decide what flight controller fits your needs
   
4. Then your propellers, you want to be able to lift over twice your load.
   
5. Choose props that will do this. Once you chose your props you can move onto choosing the motor needed for that size prop (lower KV for bigger props and more efficiency, smaller for faster flight and manoeuvrability).
6. Find ESCs that will do a minimum of 5amps more than your motor's max draw
   
7. Decide your frame, and buy/design one that fits your needs.
8. If your frame has no power distribution board, then pick one up that fist your needs.
   
9. Now your battery and Tx/Rx combo (Specktruim is a good brand)

This list is mainly to give you an idea of what needs to be compatible with each other, and what to choose.

WOW cool thanks for your help is a KK2.1.5 a better controller? Does the ESC want to have SimonK software? Your help is greatly appreciated. I want it to be about the size of Blade 200.

Not really, the KK is very limited, it is just easy to setup. I'd stick with the one you have. TAke a look at this; it is a list of flight controllers. The KK is marked KK muticopter

Yeah, Charpu has some really cool videos. He buys props a little big and curs them down to make his quad faster. He has a few videos, each one is really good. It made me wish I had built a 250mm instead of a 370mm quadcopter . I should have went to a 450, as I would be able to lift more and it would have cost the same. I do like mine though, and plan to upgrade it periodically.
