Devo 7e or 10?

Currently I have RTF quads, Syma x5c-1, Blade Nano QX 3D, & Husban X4 H107L each with it's own TX and feel. I'm thinking life would be much easier if I could fly them all with one TX. Then when buying a new quad I could buy a BNF and save a few $ there too.

Seems this can be accomplished using a Devo 7e or Devo 10. The Devo is about $90 or so more on Amazon. I don't want to invest money in a Devo 7e to find out that I should have bought a Devo 10 to start with. At this point I'm not planning on building a quad but would like to get a 350 size in the future. I do realize that I will have to add a couple of modules and use Deviation to accomplish the above.

You do realize there is a lot work, time, extra boards and soldering to get that kind of full compatibility.

What's odd is Walkera no longer lists neither of those on its site. They only have the F7 and 12E.

I did notice that when I was on Walkera last night looking for dealers. Sometimes it's easier to make decissions if you can play touchy feely with it. No luck didn't list any that I could find.

The Devo 10 stores 30 models... and can either auto bind or assign a fixed 6 digit ID to each model - which is tuned as you wish.
As you have found, but for others who may not know...Deviation is a replacement software and has a stable current version - v4.0.1 and a number of the those who contribute have "nightly build" versions - which will eventually form a new "official" version.
Walkera no longer offer on site firmware updates on any Tx and will not send out anything to those who - like me - thought the Devo was not fully functional.
The Deviations website has available a list of RTF quads from most of the Chinese makers - which the Devo can handle.... the Devo 10 - to me is the better option - the 12e is even better but around $420 ish. There are a number of built in protocols with the Devo 10. Also included Heli, Airplane and quad type "templates".... which give you a basic setup which can be fine tuned.

Thanks Quadcopter102 I found a deal on a white Devo 10 last week for $119 shipping from USA from Banggood. Also ordered the nrf20l01+ & the A7105 BG shipped from China so who knows when they will arrive.

As luck would have it a few days later while on the DeviationTx website I come across a guy with one for sale with all the modules already installed, lipo battery and someother stuff for $100 probably would have went that route if I'd see it first.

As noted above... Walkera seem to be shrinking their range of older version Radio's. I also think they have opted to let Deviation take care of the firmware updated for the 7e and 10 - not sure about the 12e. Its probably not so much of a market as a standalone item. They seem to prefer the Voyager 3 and racing machines as their sales focus.

My problems recorded in other threads - were originally my old Win 7 PC having trouble with the drivers for the update application - which due to dealing with Everbuying and how they treat people in - to my way of thinking - a shady way and knowingly send out "repaired" returns and items that are defective - as others on this forum have found.
Once I sorted the drivers and got the app running - on PC and iMac I then could not really test it until I finished the 450 kit build - which took over 4 weeks waiting for parts to come in - and was finished and tested yesterday. The Devo kicked in with the auto bind and its and the quad are working just fine.... although the quad needs some fine tuning.

I use BangGood and have no complaints - I cancelled an order... they refunded to PP without issue in 48 hours. They cancelled an order - no stock - refund to PP within 48 hours.
I got the RX 1002 reciever from them and its good... they also have an older rx601 its tiny and not as functional as the rx1002 ( about $33) ....but it has the four "standard" channels, plus 1 for "gear" - which you can assign in the devo settings to LEDs or whatever and an Aux1 channel - so its useful and only $22 or so.
Yours from BG will have the Walkera firmware - updating to Deviation will overwrite it - BUT there is a link to a German Google group who have a download of the Walkera files if you need them.

The Devo 10 came in the mail today, I normally don't use Windows but have an old lap with XP on it for times when I just can't use Linux. Installed the Defuse app but it wouldn't see the Devo 10. Finally figured out that the drivers were included but were not installed. After yhr driver install there was no problem with Defuse seeing the Devo, the rest went smooth as silk.

Don't have the nrf24l01 or the A7105 modules yet so the only quad I have that will bind with the Deviation Devo is my Blade Nano QX 3D so I hunted down a couple of config files for it. Neither of them worked the nqx3d just acted plum crazy, either would lift off or would fly off into the wall out of control. Found a tutorial on how to write the config file. The example was for another Blade quad so I tried it so doing crazy stuff like spinning in a circle like the rudder was being pushed but it wasn't. After messing with it for several hours I found a Nano Qx file and tried it still doing the samething. Remembered reading somewhere about issues and the solution was to calibrate the sticks so I tried that and low and behold it lifted off and I was able to fly it. The Nano Qx model.ini file doesn't have all the functions in it for the 3D bug it does fly nice. Its much more docile than what it was using the stock transmitter but for now that is good for me. Now I want to try a couple of the model.ini files that are for the 3D bet they will work now.

Well done mate... pleased to see you battled through it all and came out smiling.
I just kick the cat and sulk! ( hope the cat owner does not read this) I have replied in my other build thread on current situation with sorting out the model. ini files and getting nowhere - even when using one created by a quad expert with a truck load of vids on youTube!
I have stripped everything off the 450 frame and started on putting together an alien 500 frame - one will have the KK2.1.5 - the other a CC3D. I just hope I can settle the issue and find out if its me - problems with teh ini files... of a defective Devo.

BTW: - Found a tutorial on how to write the config file. Do you have a link?

I wasn't sure what was going on with mine, at one point I bound it to the RTF controller to make sure the quad itself hadn't went bonkers. I mean it was doing really screwy thing like only 2 motors spinning up, throttle down and and back up it might switch. The QX 3D uses the DSMX protocol so at least there wasn't other modules involved. Good luck hope you get it all figured out.

Tutorial!

I had "downloaded" - Tom V(ader) tutorial last weekend while searching for info to help me sort out the quads penchant for flipping. I copy and paste things like this into Word or Pages and convert to PDF - that way I can share it out on computers and iPads and have available anywhere.
Having not got around to it... did not relate it to what you you mentioned!

Just got a second CC3D FC - the Atom this time - because I have not been able to get the quad stable with either the first CC3D - from BangGood or a KK2.1.5 off ebay.
So I decided to get the Atom from FoxtechFPV - it arrived today - so over the weekend will be rebuilding the 450 quad with DJI Pjantom motors, Emax Simon Series 30a ESCs and this Atom CC3d FC. Hopefully I can get this one sorted out. I am starting a new "Model" in the Devo 10 and see how it all works out.
Its really confusing when you see these guys on youTube - unpack everything .. build the whole kit in about 20 minutes... then fly it!
