Changing JJRC H43WH WIFI, app controlled quad to radio controlled?

I recently decided to try the world of quadcopters and so I bought a cheap but good quadcopter to start with, the JJRC H43WH. I’ve really enjoyed flying it but now I have grown out of it a little.

It already has FPV installed but works through WIFI and an app. I have watched some videos on it and would really like to get goggles FPV. Also, if you have goggles on, I assume that it is much easier to control with a physical controller? Therefore, I was wondering whether it would be possible to control the quadcopter by 2.8 / 5.8 ghz radio and change the FPV Video transmitter to radio as well?

I would like to keep WIFI if possible as well. I saw that the Hubsan H216A X4 Desire Pro on Gearbest (sorry I can’t add a link as this is my first post) had both WiFi and radio, however I don’t know how that works and whether that would be possible.

You can get 2.4ghz vtx but it would interfere with rx/Tx signal.
You could use 1.3ghz for Tx or vtx.
2.4ghz or 5.8ghz for vtx. 1.3ghz is long range. Can be used for both but a bit more expensive.
Would be easiest to stay with 2.4ghz Tx
& 5.8ghz vtx. There are dis/advantages of both. A 2.4ghz vtx signal will travel further but it doesn't carry video well & the picture is not as good.
And a 5.8ghz Tx signal does not go as far as a 2.4ghz.

Thank you! Could you have different signals for the FPV camera and the main controls for the drone, such as 5.8ghz for FPV and 2.4ghz for everything else?

Also, I’m sorry this is a very newbie question, but what is rx, Tx and vtx? I looked online and couldn’t really understand what it said.

One last question: when WiFi FPV drones come with a physical controller, what is the setup there? Is the video transmitted by WiFi and then the controller transmits 5.8ghz?

The WiFi controller will most likely be just that. Although I have seen a few lately that can control with a WiFi phone but process a 5.8ghz signal, but the phone had to be compatible. There are phones out there that can use 5.8ghz. Probably through an app.

Where would I be able to get a WiFi controller such as what comes with a WiFi FPV drone?

What sort of transmitter does the drone have on board at the moment? You said it would be easiest to stay with 2.4ghz Tx so does that means that it already has that and any 2.4ghz Tx controller would be able to control the drone without making any changes?

How exactly does the WiFi work? Is the 2.4ghz Tx connected to an board router?

Could I connect goggles to the drone without making any changes to it since it already has 2.4ghz Tx or is that only for drone control and not for the video? How is FPV video transmitted at the moment?

I was thinking that if all I had to do was buy a controller and goggles, it would be cheaper than that. To be honest, I have been thinking of building my own quadcopter and was wondering whether it would be easier and more durable if I just built on what I already have, since I have invested in batteries and other accessories for this drone.

At the moment, I want to learn more than actually get the quadcopter I want. I have seen the Eachine though and it was the video of that that made me want to get into goggles FPV racing! I was just thinking that as I already have all the FPV components I could maybe use the quadcopter I’ve already got.

Would you have to do more than just buy a controller and goggles, making it cheaper to buy the Eachine? Thanks, I just really want to understand what is behind all your opinions as I have not learn it all yet!

Err no sometimes I can't be arsed looking up every toy. Really I should just stay away from the toy stuff, but feel bad for ppl who aint flying.
If he want to swap from WiFi to 2.4ghz he may aswell save up & buy a new quad.

Jackson has hit it on the head for $66 your have a complete set up and the goggles can be used later on when you have out flown this quad and want bigger and faster

I thought he meant that I already had 2.4ghz Tx and 5.8ghz vtx installed and the WiFi was just like an add on, converting those signals to WiFi and sending them to the phone at the end. But I thought that as my quad had 2.4ghz then it would be more future proof to just buy a normal controller. However, now I know that is not true, I would be interested in knowing whether that controller would actually work with my quad?

I have tried looking it up but nothing just explains how WiFi on drones actually works. If you could tell me or send me a link to a good article, that would be much appreciated!

The WiFi controller would be a phone or tablet.
I found this WiFi rx, I haven't a clue what fcb would be compatible though.

The range without a proper setup isn't worth bothering with. That's why there is no physical WiFi stick radios, who would buy one. When 2.4ghz is literally miles better.

I can't see the link, but the H43wh is controlled off a phone or tablet.
I don't think I've seen a physical stick Tx for WiFi. You could swap the WiFi fcb with a brushed fcb. & get a 2.4ghz Tx.
That's no major mod, everything else should work with another board.
just some hot glue at worst. Like RENOV8R says it's a $40 toy,
is it worth it. Buy a 2.4ghz set.
