Cant Decide What Quad copter To Get.

Hi guys

I'm travelling to Iceland in June next year for a hiking trip and from there heading across to Europe for a few weeks and want to take a quad copter with a video camera with me but i dont know which one would be right for me.

Here are my requirements:

Can fit in a backpack
Has a good camera
Has follow me mode
Uses a phone as a controller but i can buy a controller in the future to use it with, basically im looking for a smart drone that i can use for good video shots while i'm hiking and travelling but not too dumbed down that i cant have any fun with it once i get back.

I have been looking at the Yuncee Breeze but i'm not sold yet.

Any ideas?

Your requirements may be beyond what is on hand. Most of the FM drones I have seen are of the larger sized like DJI or Autel. I don't think Hubsan is a FM drone nor Chroma if I remember without going to their sites. As far as controlling by phone then I even think that drops these off the list......not sure on that, just never heard where they are controlled by a smartphone. Well maybe a small pda would be the ticket there.

I take back the FM on the Chroma and Hubsan. But the Hub it tracks the transmitter so I would think a phone to control would be useless in this scenario.

The 3DR Solo Quadcopter may be your best bet from what I have read. Sorry to keep adding to this thread but it utilizes the GoPro for filming and it will follow and allows total control via cell phone or even a small PAD.

Thanks for your help Michael1970 i have been looking at the Solo and im not sold on that either :(, i think i might have to wait until it gets a bit closer and watch what comes out in the next 6 months, maybe the Gopro karma.

Just a reminder in case you have not considered it. The Europeans regulate the crap out of everything.Make sure you check the laws in every country. Hate for you to have your $$$ drone confiscated.

This aint Kansas lol.

yeah i have looked into that and i should be fine, the biggest issue is going to be power when i'm in Iceland with nothing around me. I'm thinking a solar panel but i dont really have enough room in my luggage for a big one, any suggestions?

If you rent a car/off-road vehicle to get around in the Icelandic Boonies or in Europe that is your obvious answer. All you need is a small inverter to get some AC. 12 VDC is obviously there. If your hiking and not returning to a car or civilization, I guess you are limited by the batteries you can carry. There are a lot of battery packs out there to charge and power things like phones and tablets. Maybe someone has a specific idea on here.

I've seen lithium polymer power banks at BestBuy. buy like you said they're more for iphones and tablets.

Being a brand new machine there will be bugs for sure to work out and usually takes a few months to fix those or get them going on the right track. But yes......this machine looks very interesting for sure.

yeah i wont be buying it until mid Jan so hopefully its all the kinks have been ironed out. Does anybody know if there is any way of making the DJI drones do acrobatics i.e 3d flying or flips and stuff?

Negative. They are currently targeted to the AP audiences.
