Hello all newbie to the forum and newbie to the hobby.
I recently purchased a Bug 5w last week and was overly happy with its performance.
Until a fateful event last Sunday, it splash landed upside down in the river completely submerged.
It was most likely pilot error.
I was nervous first time flying over water. I landed twice and reset because it just didnt feel right. Thought maybe it was because I was so nervous so on third take off decided to fly and get over it. Long story short, glanced a tree and fell to a the watery depths for about 30 seconds before I ran to it and yanked the battery out.
Once home, I completely disassembled everything. Rinsed all circuit boards and plugs with alcohol. Put all electronics in a pair of wifes old pantyhose then filled with rice and let hang dry for 48 hours.
Then I reassembled.
Now it will not maintain position. App says all systems are good and working and has 16 satellites but drifts in all directions and RTH has no idea where home is. It just takes off to the left side of drone at full speed until it hits something. Auto land dont work either, it comes down then slides across ground eratically in all until it flips over.
Newbie question:
During disassembly/reassembly I some how lost 4 motor mount screws. I am not even sure how this happened, i am meticulous about saving and separating and labeling hardware when I disassemble anything. Some how I came up 4 screws short. Not a big deal I have ordered a replacement set. But in mean time, I only have 3 of the 4 screws holding each motor. I wouldn't think this would cause issues but I am learning with quads that the slightest things cause big issues that normally any other item it wouldn't matter.
Could this be one of those things that dont seem like it would matter but could cause some or all of what I am experincing?
Next if it is not then then I'm assuming I either fried the flight board or the GPS module. Even though it is reporting all systems are good. So, how would I go about testing diagnostics to figure out which one might be bad. All I have is a multi meter. I am sure that there is some way to plug in to a computer but i do not have the cable or any software to do so. What would I need?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance and happy flying!
