I have copied this review from amazon, which details how to start the 200 qx.
Verified Purchase
This is a radio controlled quad-rotor helicopter. It is made by Blade Helis, which is one of the only U.S. based RC aircraft manufacturers I know of. It is *very* fast, stable, and a ton of fun to fly.
When you buy this unit, you will receive the helicopter, one battery, a battery charger, and a toolkit. You'll need to attach the landing gear, which requires you to screw in two screws using the included hex wrench. Flight time is about 6-7 minutes, so you'll want to purchase a few extra batteries. You can also purchase an optional HD video camera that mounts on the bottom and will allow you to record video of your flight.
In order to fly the 200 QX, you will need to purchase a separate remote control. Most of the remotes made by Spektrum RC will work. My remote of choice is the Spektrum DX6i. The instruction manual includes information on how to configure most of the remotes, but there are a few settings that are important but which are not mentioned in the user manuals. Here's how I succesfully configured by DX6i:
From the Menu in the DX6i:
Travel Adj -> (Set the physical Gear Switch to 0) Gear -> 100; (Set the physical Gear Switch to 1) Gear -> 40
Sub Trim -> Throttle -> +10 (This part is missing from the documentation, but necessary to start the rotors spinning)
Flaps -> Norm Flap -> UP 100; Land Flap -> DOWN 100
Mix 1 -> Change Inh to Act and select
Mix 1 -> Gear -> Gear Act
Rate D -> 0% U +100%
SW Mix Trim Inh
Setup List -> Model Type -> Acro
Model Name: 200 QX
Reverse -> Gear (Reverse); all others (Normal)
Thro Cut -> Position -> Act (not in the manual, but needed to stop the rotors spinning when you're done flying)
D/R Combi -> D/R Swi -> Aile
Timer -> Down; Timer-> 06:30; Switch -> Trainer
Before you start flying charge the battery fully.
If you are using the DX6i remote that I recommended, set the trim buttons on your remote to 0 on each axis. The remote will issue a long beep when you reach 0. This is very important! The rotors won't turn on unless the trim on the throttle is set in a specific position. The exact position required to start the rotors spinning is slightly above zero, but I took care of that with the Sub-Trim setting (above).
Pair the remote control with the helicopter using the instructions in the user manual. Then turn on the remote control and the helicopter following the instructions in the manual.
Unlike most Blade Helicopters, you cannot start flying simply by lifting the throttle up. Instead, you have to move the left stick to the bottom right hand corner while at the same time moving the right stick to the bottom left hand corner, and then releasing both sticks at the same time. This motion will cause the rotors on the helicopter to start spinning, but the heli will not lift off of the ground. You can also start the rotors by moving the throttle to the left and then to the right, while at zero throttle. Once the rotors are spinning, you can lift off by raising the throttle (left stick).
If this start procedure doesn't work, you need to adjust the trim on your throttle upwards. As you adjust the trim, listen for the 200 QX to make a pattern of beeps. Once it does so, use the start process I described in the paragraph above. If you are using a DX6i and if you set the sub-trim as I recommended in the settings (above), this step should not be necessary.
The Gear and Mix buttons are used to select between the three flying modes, and are reflected by the big LED in the center of the Heli. Green means easy mode (self-leveling, very low banking). Blue means advanced mode (self-leveling, high banking). Red means free flying (no self-leveling). While flying, the unit will indicate a low battery condition by flashing the LED lights periodically. When that happens, land the helicopter right away to prevent over-discharging the battery.
When you're done flying and you land the helicopter, the blades will continue spinning. Hit the Throttle Cut button on the DX6i to shut them down before attempting to remove the battery. If your remote doesn't have a Throttle Cut button (DX5), you have to move the sub-trim down manually until the blades stop spinning
