Beginners Quadcopter

Hi everyone you probably been asked this a thousand times.

I'm looking to buy a Drone Quadcopter.

Budget wise id say up to £150. looking for one with good HD video camera built in.

Iv seen a few reviews on

Syma X5c -1, Hubsan, Micro Drone 2.0 iv also looked at the Parrot Ar drone 2.0 but seen quite a few bad reviews regarding the range



Not sure really which would be best.

I have never flown one of them before so i will be a complete beginner.

However i am a very quick learner and can put my hands to most things .

What do i want it for. mainly camera footage . I love taking photos of marine life.

also i do a lot of fishing from a kayak theres a sunken ship not far of the beach where we go and its hard to see it from a kayak. so from a beach in the air would be a great advantage .

also to play around with .

so id love your feedback

Well I suggest you first get a £16 quad with some spare props and extra batteries. It's not as easy as it seems. You will crash often, you will break things. It's nice to be able to practice indoors at a moment's notice too. Once you have the basics and muscle memory down you can then move up.

Takes cheap removable batteries and the 2 color props help with orientation.

BTW no matter what stage you are in the little guys are always fun.

I agree with Jackson, get a toy grade to learn on (rugged-ish and cheap). Then/while you can build a hobby grade to last much longer and to have a lot more customization and fun.

So i went out and bought a Hubsan X4 nano.
I've been Practicing indoors for the past couple of days .
Firstly just sending it up and down getting used to the throttle then moving it round. Its like a wasp.lol
Good fun one thing i cant get used to is having the nano facing me as the control then goes opposite .
not easy.
I'm at a stage now i can hover quite well and i find it better in expert mode as i feel it can handle better and that bit more responsive
iv had a couple mins outside on a field and took up as high i can wow its got some height.
i must admit when it was high i lost all sense of direction and brought it down with a bump.
no damage thankfully.
so i can fly it none stop without it coming down in the house and slowly fly it round.
not tried to fly it round facing ( if you know what i mean ) something i might need to learn.

Iv also met a guy on the field who had a self build and it had 6 propellers .
what differance does one with 6 and one with 4 make.
and are self build a lot better than the ready to fly ones.
if found one on ebay 6 props kit £150.
would this be a better one that the ready made ones.

I much prefer hobby grade, but the toy grade are a lot more convenient to fly, as there is very little to worry with. I'd say as soon as your comfortable to get a hobby grade quad. The six motored one is a hexicopter, the smaller ones are great for racing, and they give a more lifting power.

So if i wanted to put a gopro and if there is an copter cam out there cheaper with just as good HD video
would the 4 motor be better then the 6 motor.
also would the self build be better than the ready made ones.

Hell, I like the 3 motor tricopters/T-copters. Very cool, agile, stable and acrobatic and the they make great camera platforms due to their yaw authority and swooping turns.

A taste here. This guy sells inexpensive frame kits and has numerous (rather sloppy/hasty) build videos. Nothing fancy.

They are also real smooth descending as the they don't have that massive quad propwash/downwash going on that often leads to instability, they are much more resistant to VRS. They are also easier to maintain orientation with. Obviously he needs a battery strap though.

VRS that happened to me today , broke a propeller off. good job i had some spares.
theres so many about my head is totally mashed at the min.
after looking into things im going to get a ready built one and learn more then im going to get a kit.
and build on this.
theres so much to be learnt regarding this hobby.
so after looking at some they have some great features.
Auto-return button
Brake function, built-in altitude sensor
And face button which gather is having the quad looking at you no mater where u fly which could be a good thing
if your trying to film in your direction.
lso the X8w has Orientation mode which i thinks good for newbie.
Also one with a half decent Hd Camera.
