I've just purchased my first drone. Its an ionic Stratus drone compatible with GoPro. But I'm having problems whenever i put the go pro on the drone and try to record in the sky. there is a short lag in the control responses and even sometimes drifts away on its own and makes a crash landing with the go pro on it. i haven't experienced any lag or drifting away and crash landing without the go pro on it. when i have the geo connected i connect it through the go pro app on my phone through wifi and attach my phone to the remote so i can see the live feed while flying and recording. My thought is that while its in the sky my phone and go pro wifi signal is interfering with the drone and remote controller signal and is causing the drone to lag in commands and even drift off. But I'm just a beginner and know very little so could someone help me out here???

You can try an experiment - fly the aircraft with the GoPro attached but not in WIFI Mode and see how well the aircraft responds. WIFI is at 2.4 GHZ, which may be the same as the transmitter for your aircraft. I use a 2.4 GHZ transmitter but it utilizes spread spectrum so that it skips to a clear sub-channel if there's interference.
I'm in the process of mounting a Raspberry Pi board to my hexcopter to control my GoPro's shutter - the R.P. will be connected to my APM flight controller, which will control the camera shutter - the R.P. will send the commands to the GoPro using the http protocol over the WIFI link (I have a wifit dongle on the R.P.). I don't expect any interference between the WIFI and my receiver because of the spread spectrum functionality.

I appreciate the response! i just finished trying the experiment and that was definitely the problem. I had no lag and no loss of control with just the go pro attached and wifi disconnected. the drone responded perfectly, but kinda sucks that i can't attach my phone to my remote controller to see a live feed of what the drone can see. Any idea of how to get around that where i could still connect the phone to the go pro to see what the drone sees?? Or is it not possible because mine doesn't have the spread spectrum function?

Golly, I don't see a way to avoid the interference without swapping out the receiver for another one. I'm glad that you found the problem but wish I could offer a better solution!
