Hi Guys, total newbie here!
Being ill at home for a week now (no, not the big C curse that were dealing with for 2 years now), surfing around, I stumbled over this video:
What happens in Ukraine at the moment, is driving me absolutely mad! I have friends from Ukraine, Russia, Poland, all are devastated. This all happens less than a 2 hour flight away from my home. I have to think about something I can do about it!
While being ill at home, I had time to let my feverish thoughts flow. I had ideas similar to the ones shown in the video, yet a little more sophisticated: autonomous delivery instead of manual radio control.
What would be the parameters I'm thinking of?
Using as much standard parts as possible from accessible suppliers (amazon, ebay, electronic markets, etc.)
Easy and fast assembly and programming.
Possibly target is moving, so optical search is necessary.
Good visibility is assumed for the moment.
Regulatory issues are not assumed.
Providing payload is none of our business, that's a task for pros!
Source of target GPS coordinates not to be discussed at the moment, but possibly in future: a 2nd, leading drone could come into play.
Key objectives:
Range is more important than speed.
Payload is more important than speed.
Noise reduction is not essential, yet might be for future applications.
Key questions:
Is it possible?
Which maximum range could be reached?
Are there any standard solutions for optical target recognition, probably arduino based?
Optical sensor could be GoPro or similar.
These are just the results of thoughts of a total newbie with some technical and general IT expertise. There may be issues, errors, wrong assumptions, missing features, etc.
Here I found a proposal that might solve the task partially:

- A package should be delivered to a specified target.
- Payload requiry: 1 kg (to be discussed)
- Range requiry: 5 km minimum
- No RC necessary: after receiving target GPS coordinates, drone flies to known target position on a specified route, not necessarily direct line.
- After position is reached, drone seeks target by optical recognition.
- Final approach: when target is recognized, drone performs a steep approach to target.
- Horizontal target size around 10 square meters.
- A specified area on top of target, size 0.1 to 0.25 sqare meters (to be discussed), is approached.
- On touchdown, payload is released and activated.
- Drone returns to a specified home position (GPS) or stays on target. If drone stays on target, releasing payload is not necessary, yet activating is.
