Just recently got into RC thanks to my wife. She wanted to get me something new for my birthday and tried to buy a helicopter but the one she bought was little more than blades, motor and a sensor.
I happened across a Sharper Image drone on sale, bought it and enjoyed flying it until it croaked. Stopped up at a local RC hobby shop and met an avid (and well set up) flyer. Hung out and watched him fly a number of planes and after he talked to me about moving out if toys and into hobby grade showing me a few setups he had.
Picked up a CX-30w to tinker with (forced to use the phone to pilot since I was not sent the tx) and was offered a partially stripped J450 (around $100 worth of parts for $55) to learn on.
