Are ebay kit's good for newbies

Hi, I'm very new to quads and was looking to grab an entry level one, however I have no idea what parts work best together. I like the look of the X525 frame and found this kit (Sans radio & battery) on ebay.

I plan on replacing the props / anything I break but I'm really gunning for a reasonable base to get myself up and running.

Does anybody have any advice/horror stories regarding these kits?

I have no experience with an actual ebay kit. I did however order my quad as cheap as I could. My advice is, whats the worst that can happen? Especially for 60 pounds (that seems heavy, LOL). I mean, look at replacement parts. If you receive a bad motor how expensive will it be to replace? If the material for the frame breaks easily in a crash, can you fix it within your budget? I received a bunk flight controller. Im out like $25. So for me that's not too bad. I would say consider that and go from there. You can always upgrade slowly. That's the fun part!

Hi Jawline , that kit is mostly Hobby king parts , your get it cheaper direct from them they have a UK ware house I can help you sort parts for a nicer build , I have had this frame its ok , if you crash it will snap a leg and you cant get them so buy 2 frames so you have spare , the ebay kit has good parts like the KK 2.1.5( hobby king ) and flash tool( hobby king) , frame is good( hobby king) , the motors are basic they will be ok but shafts bend in a crash , you normally find these motors on a 450 frame but will be ok on the 525 , props are ok for a start but carbon willbe better later on ( hobby king) so its not bad but I am sure we can get better for the same or less money buy from Hobby king, I put on here what is hobby king parts so you can see what is and look at the hobby king site and see how cheap it is from them

Hi, Thanks for your reply it's very helpful. I tried to go through Hobby king but the variety / chance the parts don't all fit is a bit worrying (I could find a bunch of the parts, but wasn't sure about the motors). If you think HK would be a better bet I'll look into that, if you could suggest which parts to buy for a reasonable budget build that would be awesome (I tried going through it myself, but came up with wildly different prices and probably a bunch of incompatible parts).

Price isn't really the issue - but I'm probably gohna trash the thing - so I'd like to keep the build pretty lean.
