I am considering buying a Hubsan X4 H107D FPV 4CH 6 Axis with Camera. The controller has a FPV monitor for real-time video from the FPV camera on board the quadcopter. Will this be a good choice? Comments welcome.

The Hubsan H107 is one of the most popular small quads flown by members on this site. It has a good rep both for flying and reliability. There are lots of member posts on repair and modifications. Has a lot of parts availability. Another plus is you can fly it indoors!

When I was first shopping for a quad, ,the Hubsan was mentioned to me. I had gone out to Amazon.com and read the specs. I also viewed a video from some "...grandpa..." that expounded on the virtues of the Hubsan. When I did find a quad that was just for learning about them and how to fly them, I got the UDIRC U818A-HD. The U818A is a bit unmanageable and has a propensity to crash into every tree it can find. I like it but the flight time is so short (about 5 minutes), there never seems to be enough time to learn how to really operate it and that's also because the merest of breezes sends it off on its merry way, with the controller being an unforgiving little ass when you try to bring it back, even if it has the "return Home" function. The Hubsan seems to be a much more controllable. By the way, the Hubsan nI am looking at is WHITE in color and not MIDNIGHT BLACK so it can be seen better in dark areas.

The hubsan is still a mini quad so any breeze over walking speed is gonna move it around. If your budget permits and you fly outside a lot maybe something a bit larger would do you better. Maybe 180mm-200mm range. Dromida, Blade, Helimax etc. all have affordable options with good quality in that size range. They are more visible and their size makes them more stable in light breezes.

The FPV on this, and others of this type, seems more like a gimmick, I doubt you'll be able to do any true (FPV only) flying. I'm sure you will find yourself torn between looking at the hard to see screen in the daylight and then at the quad. Back and forth is not the way to do it. And the 0.3MP camera I saw listed for the FPV model leaves much to be desired.
I'd opt for the standard (no FPV) version with the 2MP camera.
