Another newbie after advice

Hi all, been dipping into the forum for a week or so now in an attempt to learn more about the hobby. My back ground is RC cars, but I recently bought a Syma X5 and I'm hooked... Best £37 I've ever spent! Whilst I try and become more familiar with the controls, I've been looking at what to buy next and fancy something a bit more specialised. My budget is £400 tops.

My thoughts at the moment are to buy a Taranis TX, I really like the idea of FPV, but not sure what type of quad to buy? Do I go for a 250 racer type, or get something more sensible?

My latest list of possibilities include the 250 Runner from HK or the Eachine 250 Racer, but I'm not sure if either of them are any good? The main thing I'm after is something with good spares back up that's not going to cost a fortune to keep running.

FPV wise I was thinking the Quanum V2 from HK.

Any thoughts, suggestions, opinions would be most welcome.

Welcome to the hobby! Taranis is my choice too

I think a 250 is a great next step. It will be cheaper than a huge gimbal ship, and you will have lots of fun with the speed and power. I have been flying a cheap carbon fiber frame, t-motors, ready to fly escs, naze32, and dr4ii rx without issues other than broken props for over 6 months. Spend the money now for quality parts, or you will be buying again at a latter date.

The more sensible option I'm considering is the Quanum Venture, but at £240 it would take me over budget. That said, I can always put off buying the goggles and VRX for a few months as I'll have plenty to learn in the meantime.

Thanks for the tip on quality parts too. The 250 range certainly look more interoperable than the Venture... They also look more like my RC cars, but with props instead of wheels

I bought a Quanum Venture BNF a few months ago and it's quite a lot of bang for the buck. I have only flown it a few times but I really like the stability and the camera is much better than I expected. I like that larger quads are easier to fly as well. For a FPV starter consider this;

You won't use the camera or Tx on the Venture but this stuff works really well and you can use the better antenna on the Venture. AND, it's on sale!!
About the radio. You should look at it as though you were buying a tool, not as a part of your quad. A good quality radio like the Taranis will be a one time purchase and last you for years thru many different quads.
You have caught the disease and the only known cure is to own multiple quads!!!
