??? about lipo batteries

I'm still confused about these darn lipos. All I've been able to research on line says don't overcharge them and don't drain them too much (with varying opinions on how much is too much). To store them charge them to about half capacity. ? I think. I've recently received no less than 7 new lipos. I just don't understand why they were all shipped to me slightly overcharged. 22.2v battery checking at 24v., 3.7v checking at 4v, for a couple of examples. I had 2 batts for my first quad, and managed to kill them fairly neatly. I suspect I didn't know how to care for them properly. Well, I HOPE it was my fault that they didn't seem to last very long. So I've been searching for definitive information on how to make these new ones last as long as possible. Without a lot of luck so far. Any ideas?

3.7v is kinda like an industry standard for the voltage per cell of a lipo. A fully charged lipo cell is 4.2v (so a fully charged 3 cell, for example, is 12.6v). I generally try not to discharge my 3 cells below 10v, or around 3.3v per cell. 3.7v per cell is a pretty safe place to store them, so if you discharge them below that, charge them back up to around there before you store them.

Hi when lipo are made they are a rate so they can be stored for a long time , but after you charge them the first time you change the chemical set up of the lipo to a use state , now you have to start to look after them as my friend said store at 3.7 v per cell run down to 3.2 that is the lowest I don't go below 3.5 and my batteries last year's
So if you buy a new battery and are not going to use it for awhile don't charge it

OK, Now this would explain the mystery about why they arrived seemingly "overcharged". Too windy to fly today, and it's snowing out there now, so I'm just coolin' my jets. Perhaps tonight I'll get some more of the parts and pieces for my Bee.

If that ever happens to me i use a flight simulator to get my fix. The Freerider software is free and works decent for being free... As long as your transmitter came with a Aux or USB that can hook up to your PC you can use it for the simulator. Here is a link to it if you want to give it a try. :]

I checked out Freerider, looks interesting. IMMEDIATELY checked out my Spectrum DX5, sadly, no USB on that puppy. But I've got a new radio on the way, perhaps it will have USB.

Shame. But just to make sure you got a definitive answer on your main question. 3.7v per cell is about the best storage rate for your batteries.
3s = 11.1 / 4s = 14.8 / 6s = 22.2 and so forth. Your batteries might be going bad fast if they are being over discharged(Using a prop with too much pitch &/or demanding a higher C discharge than its rated for(Drawing 35c constant with a battery rated 30c). And try only charging them at 1c.
If the lipos are new. Give them 4 or 5 easy flights to break them in never bringing them under 3.5-3.7v per cell for the first few flights.

Hi spectrum don't have a usb, your need a small Jack like used on mp3 player ,the lead comes with Phoenix flight sim

Took a closer look at the Spektrum, and there is a plug in the back. I might have to look into this a little deeper. could be some fun.

Phoenix does have fpv and a few quads but not many but if you buy from e bay it's about £90 it will come with the special lead for the spectrum , you get free updates for life , also your flying the sim on the same transmitter that you fly your real quad with , it's not cheap but your save money on every crash you have on the sim repairs are free and takes 5 seconds so no down time , this is what to look for

Thanks for the link holtneil, I'll check it out. If I can run the program on my laptop, I can throw the screen up on to the large TV. Sounds like it could be fun as well as useful. maybe expensive too.

Make sure you that you change CH3 (throttle) to a negative number. I cranked my throttle all the way down to -100.

Also check the AUX CH menu.

You'll probably want to use CH5 for your flight modes. So for Source you want SWC which is the 3 way switch.

This also seems to confuse folks. The Cancel button has 2 functions.

Just wondering why you set your failsafe on throttle to a negative number? If you lose radio signal, won't the quad just drop out of the sky? I've got all my channels set in failsafe at zero except throttle, which is set at +38. This is the setting I found that when I turn off the radio, it drops quickly but still maintains level and lands fairly softly
