Fishy Tree
Yup, I wrecked again...
So I recently had "a few to many" an bought a SYMA X6 quadcopter. Here's the link from where I bought mine http://www.amazon.com/Syma-Super-Channel-2-4GHz-Copter/dp/B00JKV88K4
So lets begin!
First off, as a noob to quads, my opinions may not be valid as I have very little experience. However I have decided to give it a go! we all gotta start somewhere right?
On to the quad. My first impressions of the quad were quite low, even as a someone who has only flown one other quad in my life, and that is my Alias.
What I felt when I first picked it up was the felling of holding something antique of high value or holding a new born baby. What I mean is it felt quite delicate, like all I would need to do was shift wrong and it would break.
Right out of the box the battery was at about half charge, so I loaded the controller with some brand new AA batteries and took it outside. My expectations performance wise were dead on, slightly underpowered, sluggish, and slow. I figured if I charged the battery it might work better, and it did! When the battery was fresh, this thing really moved. I had it at least 100 yards (300 feet or 91 meters) away and it responded as if it was 40 feet away. Witch is way more than I expected.
Only spending $70 on this thing, I wasn't expecting much; and to be honest I didn't get much. Or so I though, earlier tonight I took her out for some night flying, witch is my favorite. It ended up being far to windy and I only got about 2 minutes of actually flight and not just fighting the wind. I ended up hitting the road and breaking the rotor guard. So I took a knife and cut the rest of it off, recharged the battery for an hour and fifteen minutes and took it back out in the same wind.
Once the rotor guards were gone it handled the same wind 1000x better. It was no longer as stable as it was in terms of hovering, but it moves much faster and is much easier to control in general. I will post an update as soon as I can along with some video as today is my first day of owning it.
So, only having one other quad of a completely different class. Like I said, my opinion is that of a noob. That being said, if you're a beginner or just looking for something fun to fly, get this thing, it's only $70 and with the right work it can accommodate a GoPro Hero3. You have to take everything off as far as cosmetic parts to do this, but it can be done.
In the box you get the quad, one battery, a charger, and 4 extra rotor blades. The quad is made mostly of plastic and styrene.
The controller feels even cheaper than the quad, it has fake buttons and somewhat of a lag when you change throttle or direction quickly. I'm honestly afraid to carry the controller and quad around while not using them.
The battery is a 7.4V, 850 Mah LiPo, witch takes about one hour and fifteen minutes to charge and depending on how you fly and wind you get about 8-13 minutes of flight time.
My conclusion:
If you're a noob looking for a first quad that is super easy to fly and can be made to carry a camera; get one, it's only $70, spare parts are available and it's quite fun to fly. If you are looking for a quad for filming, save your money!
