Hi when you fly that brave your going to have a crash at some time , my last cost me £550 set backs happen sorry to say

Been pretty lucky so far I feel like only busted ESCs or motors (eventually replaced both the motors and ESCs I think both two times so far). My first quad was a 3d printed frame so I busted a lot of arms on that one but cost of plastic is low (mostly just cost in time to print), probably in total have broken/replaced about $200 worth of gear but never anything catastrophic (friend crashed it on the roof of a building when it was still 3d printed frame but luckily got it back, people at the Oak Park River Forest Museum are really nice and happened to have some people working on the roof later in the week they found it and gave it right back)

$200 in sum total of damages for quadcopter damages through the life of the hobby so far is not bad!! And it's really cool that a museum is so understanding as well.

Although I'm sorry you had to go through that with a 400 meter send into the ground, the meteor like crash is sort of... exciting?!

It was not a small heli , it was my Goblin 630 comp so had to buy a new one and swap out servos and FBL unit , still glad it was not my scale AH Cobra
The scale AH Cobra sounds... really... expensive... (well all proper-helis seem to be quite expensive from my perspective)
They are expensive to build and repair, cobra was £660 for the heli mechanics the scale body was £300 the pilots were £100 each so less then the goblin 630 at £1500 without any batteries flight packs work out £80 each that's 2 6cell 4000 mah to make it a 12 cell set up the FBL unit was £150 , ESC £220 servos £150 ,so yes they are alot but fun

When I was 10, and very new to drones, I was using a cheap 25mw AIO camera, for fpv along with a GoPro, on my Dji F450 frame, with ardupilot, when I had sudden loss of fpv signal, when I panicked and got disoriented (it was night, and I didn't have lights on the quad) and ended up dumb thumbing it straight into a pine tree, after which, thankfully, my drone fell through, onto the ground. Damages- 2 ESC's, broken flight controller, all props, 2 broken arms, fpv camera, and worst- A dented lipo, which I was forced to throw.
