What about making a F450 sized quad?? Very stable, with Ardupilot and GPS and amazing for aerial photography. MY 2 cents.

As Renov8r said, just purchase a good, reliable tx (something like the Flysky fs-i6) and a bunch of receivers and stick to them. The problem is that one brand of tx doesn't usually have the same type of communication with the rx, even if it is at 2.4GHz.
