Sounds like that motor was damaged when the ESC failed, may have broken one coil.

Have you looked at the Phantom 4 yet? Might be worth a look before going too far. The same company makes it, but it is a lot cheaper and may capture some things you are interested in. Though for what you are doing it sounds like it might be ok, but perhaps not ideal. No less any worse...

You should be able to send the think back to hobbyking and get credit or a refund to then buy the other one, or you could just buy the sock, IF I remember correctly that is all that changed from the one on HK to the "pro" version.

Which ESCs do you have exactly? http://www.rctutor.org/esc-flashing.html You will want to make 100% sure you are flashing the correct firmware for your ESC if you are sdet on flashing them, though I don'y think the stock firmware would create a problem.

If you have prime then amazon is awesome, you usually have to find alternatives though if you are looking for something too specific.

I second that a build would be great, but you first need to know what you really want. There are some things that are just aren't available to your average hobbyist, though a Phantom 4 would give you about everything you could want for a lot of basic cinematography, it lacks in affordability...

If I understand this right you might have a problem with one motor where it has a short across the coils or more likely the wires going into the coils, when powering it up it would consume all of the power the battery has to offer.

I think it is a 3.5mm (AKA 1/8'' or mini) but am not sure, it could be a 2.5mm sub-mini. Here is a similar cable.

Do you have an electrical tester like a multimeter? Could be a low battery preventing it from arming. This could be as simple as charging it to getting a new charger to replacing the battery. Or there could be some type of damage to the power system of the quadcopter itself,
