Replacing My Tarot 2 Axis Gimbal With A 3 Axis One

Going from a fixed mounted camera to a 2 axis gimbal was a huge step for me - the stabilization along the pitch and roll axis permitted me to shoot much better aerial videos. But lately I've been annoyed by the "yaw jitter" that occurs when the autopilot is fighting a cross breeze. So I decided...

    Transmitter/Receiver understanding needed

I'll offer a different perspective by briefly describing my journey which has been just over a year: When I finally decided to take the plunge, I decided I wanted to build my own, thinking that the state of the art is about where personal computers was back in the late 80's. I didn't build my...

    Flying in heat and humidity..

Well, density altitude is a function of both temperature and humidity. out here in central Texas, I have to deal with both! But I have not done the calculations - something I should do!

    Newb Question

I'm not sure what you mean by "processing" video. If you're talking about removing distortion effects such as fish eye, then you'll have to buy an application, such as Adobe Lightroom. I have a GoPro camera and GoPro has an application that removes this distortion. If you're talking about...

    I found this interesting..Quad parachute.

The canister would have to be mounted to the side - the center of my three aircraft are populated with the F.C.. And I have a GPA mast, video transmitter, telemetry.... position would be an issue, not to mention balancing to get the C/G back where it should. And then there's the issue of the...

Am I going to fry this reciever?

Have you thought about wiring a resistor in line between the UART and the receiver?

looking for suggestions for a quadcopter model for an engineering project

I seriously doubt that you will find an RTF or kit to meet your requirements at your price point. If you're willing to ante up more $$ and build your own, I'd suggest an Elev-8 from Parallax - my avatar is a photo of one that I built. Here is a link to the Parallax site...

Sun City, Texas Aerial Video Montage

I put together bits and pieces of videos I previously shot along with the new scenes. Click here: All scenes were shot using my Parallax Elev-8 equipped with a Tarot two axis gimbal/GoPRo Hero4. I wish I had a three axis gimbal as the aircraft was subject to crosswinds and the APM had to...

unable to to arm in Loiter!!!

Whenver I have an arming issue, I use Mission Planner to help me out. I will take a laptop outside, plug in a telemetry transceiver into the laptop's USB port and connect to the aircraft in M.P. then when I attempt to arm, I can find out what the problem is.

    APM 2.8 set up issues

Some suggestions for flying: When you get your GPS working again, program the following flight modes into your transmitter: Stabilize, Loiter, RTL. Take off in Stabilize mode, then switch to Loiter - the aircraft will hover in place (needs GPS for this). You can move the aircraft around, but as...

    APM 2.8 set up issues

you are right - much less work to do with the Naza! APM gives you control of a ton of parameters which is nice if you want control of every aspect of operation. But you have to go through a lot of calibrations! Just recently, I discovered that I also have to calibrate the voltage that the power...

    APM 2.8 set up issues

I can't speak for DJI stuff, and I'm sure RENOV8R's response was tongue in cheek (though I suspect serious anyway), but I've read some posts where APM and Naza F.C.'s were compared and from what I've seen they are pretty comparable. I've had good luck using APMs. Cost is probably about the same...

    Help with first new build

With regard to shooting video, I started out with a Drift sport cam mounted to my Elev-8 but unless I flew under really cam conditions, the jerkiness was really annoying, as well as the jello effect from aircraft vibrations. Later, I bought and installed a Tarot 2 axis gimbal and a GoPro Hero4...
