I built a DJI 450 with the Naza lite and GPS. I have a Spektrum DX8 transmitter. This is my first build and getting everything right between the radio and the Naza was a challenge but in the end everything seemed to work perfect. Toggling between course lock and home lock as well as GPS, ATTI and fail safe all acted correctly when the quad was hooked up the DJI assistant program. The GPS would not initiate a calibration and this was a source of confusion as everything seemed like it was hooked up right. Regardless the quad flew perfectly. I was very satisfied with my labor and could not have been more pleased. I flew it around for a day or two but still could not get the GPS to initiate a calibration. I forget the exact LED blink pattern but I think it acted like the GPS was working even though I never preformed a calibration. So I kept at it and in my effort to fine tune it I made things worse and had a spectacular and very hard crash into my neighbors house, one of the arms was broken off when it hit. It seemed like I lost all communication between my radio and the quad. Some of the last things I did were change the basic gains from 135 to 100 and export the file from the Naza assistant software and then import it back which as I understand it writes to the EEPROM in the Naza. I did these as a result of watching various you tube videos and the videos on the DJI website. Looking at the aftermath of my crash I saw that the ground lead from the LED module parted from the solder joint probably due to a cold solder joint. During the run up to the crash I initially had control but it seemed rough then it seemed very rough then it was lost all together.
So here are my questions for you DJI people out there.
What is the "Write" button for on the DJI assistant software program? Does it serve as a save function for changes that you are making?
Is it required that you export the file to your PC and then import it back to the program? Has anyone done this?
Did changing my gains cause my crash?
Does the Naza controller get its power from the LED module? I think it does. I think a cold solder joint is the strongest contender for my failure.
Why couldn't I initiate a cal with my GPS? I was flipping back and forth from ATTI to GPS rapidly to initiate.
I am in a long stretch of work shifts right now and have not got a chance to work on the quad much. I replaced the arm today and will re-solder the LED module soon. I am going to rotate the bottom deck 90 degrees so I have room for a FPV camera in the future. I will also put the gains back to 135 and use the "write" button but I don't want to export/import again. Thinking of locating the Naza to a better location as well. when it was sandwiched between decks it was impossible to get at.
Comments are greatly appreciated.
