Which Quadcopter to get?

Hello,
I have been wanting a quadcopter for sometime now. I am planning on filming a 30 mile backpack trip across a lava flow this year and have decided its time!

I am pretty handy. Ive gotten pretty far into arduinos, I love to tinker, so I could build one. Buying one is easier/more reliable? but I do have plenty of time.

All help is greatly appreciated!

I would like a quadcopter that has :

camera, maybe infrared as well?
fpv
gps
higher battery life

My budget is $300-$500.

Should I buy or build?
Completed Quad make/model suggestions?
Building suggestions?

This is the first one that came to mind in your price range Check out a few Youtube videos, this is a very capable flyer and has everything you're looking for. Mind you, it's notin the same class asa DJI or Yuneec, but still a lot of bang forthe buck
