Which Mobile Device

To Whom It May Concern:

I am an 86 year old retired photographer and I have pre purchased a Phantom 3 Professional aircraft from Amazon. My expected delivery date is between June 4th and June 8th.

I am almost completely ignorant of the current communication technology. I have never used a cell phone for I have no use for one and I have no knowledge of all the varied mobile devices. That is why I am writing. I am aware of the fact that I need a mobile device in order to see what my Phantom's camera sees, but my ignorance of mobile devices leaves me totally in the dark. I need someone to basically describe how a mobile device works and to suggest a good quality, but relatively inexpensive mobile device to use with my Phantom. All the while keeping in mind that I live mostly on Social Security and I may be paying for that Phantom 3 even after my death.

Thank everyone in advance for their help and advice in choosing a mobile device to use with my Phantom 3.

Hi mate I have done some reading for you and look as it its wifi link you will need one of the listed for it to work , its a phone or tablet , Tablet may be nicer as its screen is bigger
  • iOS: iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad mini 3, and iPad mini 3 Wi-Fi + Cellular. This app is optimized for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Android: Samsung S5, Note 3, Sony Xperia Z3, Google Nexus 7 II, Google Nexus 9, Mi 3, Nubia Z7 mini

If you can get a device with 802.11ac or 802.11n that would be better for bandwidth and range.

EDIT: Sorry, I had just skimmed your post

First question is how big of a screen do you need? What type of price range do you have?

If you have a laptop or something you may be able to use that.

A device running android will probably be cheaper than iOS.

Thanks for replying holtneil. Are mobile devices either phones or tablets? At any rate a phone would be too small for my use so I guess I go with a tablet. I would only want to use the tablet for monitoring the camera in my Phantom. Is there some kind of basic tablet without frills that would serve my purpose? Money is THE main object.

Thanks again.

My price range is nil. I have no range. I think 'rock bottom' best describes it. And I really can't say what size screen I would settle on because I don't know the prices associated with screen size.

I am going to do some research this afternoon and see what I can figure out.

Thanks again.

Hi try and get a second hand one it will be cheaper, as the Phantom3 is not out yet its not been tested with older units , look at the wifi spec on the new tablet and then match it to an old one that uses the same wifi

When you say look at the wifi spec on the new tablet, what new tablet do you mean? I tried to get DJI to recommend a tablet and they gave me about fifty phones and tablets, which helps me not at all. They apparently do not have any specific tablet in mind to use with Phantom 3, which I think is odd. They designed such a fantastic machine, one would think they would have designed a unique tablet as an accessory.

Hi mate they have a list of what will work with the Phantom 3 ,Lots of people have smart phones and tablets so they have made it work with the most popular ones Instead of saying you must have this monitor from us at £300+ , its the list I put on this thread , but as money is tight for you , I would look at a tablet thats on the list, then find a second hand older model that uses the same wi fi as the one on the list
the samsung S5 the latest uses
Wi-Fi
802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2.4G + 5GHz, VHT80 MIMO
Samsung S4 which is cheaper uses Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, So it may also work
Samsung S3 which is even cheaper uses Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, so this may also work
Cant promise as it will need to be tested
