Transmitter upgrade?

Hi folks, my current transmitter is a Spektrum DX6i which I have for 2 models. I have never really been happy with the DX6i because of its cheap looking plastic case ,many years ago I used Futaba gear which I liked. Recently I spotted an Aurora 9 transmitter for sale and am now considering buying it, question is, is that a good tx unit and will it work on my models . Thanks for any advice.

Very likely the answer is no. The spektrum receivers use DSM or DSM2 or DSMX as the protocol which are protocols developed by the us navy I'm pretty sure and expanded on by rc companies (called spread spektrum technology it sort of hops channels dynamically and uses best signal is roughly how I understand it). Generally each transmitter company sells receivers that are compatible so you would need to replace your receivers with ones that use the protocol of the new tx and may need to reconfigure the flight controller to "know" what the input signal is (protocol wise). I suggest checking out the jumper T16, radiomaster T16 variants that are coming on the market. Those typically include an external 4 in 1 2.4GHz transceiver module that supports a ton of protocols including frsky D8 or D16 modes and spektrum dsm protocols so can bind with your existing receivers and lots of others for a bit of future proof. Also easy to take out the module if you want to go tbs crossfire eventually for longer range.
