Test quad ESC/FC problems

so i am building this acro line of sight practice quad (because that is my downfall) out of parts i have laying around

i have the Racerstar RS20Ax4 ESC

i have the kingkong F3 lite FC, it came with my kingkong 65gt

and i have the kingkong 1103 7800kv motors, which also came with the kk 95gt

as far as i know the FC is working, because it seems fine. and as for this ESC, i pulled it from a perfectly working quad, so it should be fine too. the problem is when i boot the ESC they beep seemingly random, it sounds very strange, then the motors start twitching randomly, and ive tried every protocol betaflight lets me and each one twitches and beeps differently, but none work. i have tried flashing the fc with betaflight 3.2.5, ive tried calibrating the escs in betaflight which wont work. tried reversing the motor direction by changing the motors wire order, and ive even tried reversing the motors control wires that come off the fc and connect to the ESC. No dice. also i cant even access the ESC from bl heli configurator (going through the FC usb port) for some reason. it connects but cant read setup, and the ESC reboots sometimes when i click read setup.another im stumped. i have a suspicion that the flight controller is not compatible with this ESC, in that case id not bother to buy a new FC, cuz this was just a "hey im bored and have parts, so why not try?" kind of project. its not the end of the world if this doesnt work, i just think itd be cool to have an extra quad i can bash around for practice LOS. i am currently building another micro with better components, using the firer 110 frame.

What method are you using to calibrate the ESC? CLI commands worked for me when the FC passthru wouldn't.
Also, How are you going to power the FC?

sorry i didnt know there was more than one way to skin the cat, lol. ive been using the motors tab to calibrate, how do you use the cli to do this? ive been p[owering the fc off the usb port on the pc, but if i sort out this esc problem i will pop a 7805 regulator on it to power the fc, and if i decide to convert it to an fpv drone, i would swap that regulator for the lt 323, because the 7805 wouldnt be able to throughput that much current

start without power to ESC
connect the FC to BF and go to CLI
"set min_command=2000" enter
"save" enter
power the ESC
"set min_command=1000" enter
"save" enter. good to go
You might want to google it as that's from memory.

You tried different protocols, so not really. Still a little green here.
Maybe the lack of a Rx signal, or the missing ground wire. Just shots in the dark
Thanks for the regulator info BTW

yea np, it makes me feel good to know that someone thinks the regulator idea is interesting lol. and thanks for the help. i forgot to mention that i also tried plugging in this ESC into the old FC i used it with before, (SP F3 acro dof, just the motor signal wires) and powered em both up, and i couldnt get it to play ball that way either... honestly it seems like either this ESC has lost its mind, or it just really hates these motors

FWIW I did just put the same ESC on a 5" that I wanted to rob ESC's from the arms. I downgraded to a big ol PWM Rx, and it's using a crap naze32. It flies.
Just sayin the ESC isn't crap. At least the one I got.
Someone helpful should chime in eventually.

Try resetting the board in setup tab next to gyro reset. & don't load any backup setting, start fresh. Unless you have actually changed any cli settings I don't think it will be that.
Before I take a quad apart for a fault, this is the what I'd do.
Reset the gyro.
Reset the board or reload a previous then latest firmware.
If I think it maybe esc related I will reload firmware. Usually after these it can only a number of things. It's just a process of elimination. Start with the software before you start taking it apart.

Some esc's need throttle calibration before they work properly. (props off)
Turn on Tx, Throttle to the max. Plug lipo into quad. Esc's should beep... Then Tx off unplug lipo. Everytime new esc's come I test them on a servo tester. With an old motor. Same with motors. Test everything as if anything like me I have stuff in the drawer for weeks before it gets used. Usually by this time you can't send it back.

Possibly incompatible Betaflight configurator version. If you're still using Chrome app v 10.0.0 or less, download the latest 10.1.0 from the Betaflight github

i wired it all up, and here it is. as it turns out, the fc was freaking out and not knowing what to say to the ESC's because it didnt have an rx hooked up, just like badfish said! or atleast i assume thats what happened. cuz i soldered up everything and now the ESC's are cooperating FINALLY

No rx attached & you not notice.
That's a noob move.
Only 3 thing to apply to the board
Rx
Esc's
Power.
Done it myself, tbh. Never again.
Stuff like this sticks in the grey matter.
